Yea a budget of 8k for engine, turbo, box and clutch will hit 400/400... if it was my money then I'd be going for a 2.5 STi short block with forged internals and fitting a suitable 6-spd for the 2.5 engine.

That way I could get the best bits from my Hawkeye STi in the lighter Classic shell.

Cheers,
Grant

i think you'll find you'll struggle if that includes gearbox and clutch.

2000: 2.5 Short Block
1000: Internals, Engine Parts etc
1500: Turbo, 321 prob?
2500: 6-spd conversion
1000: Big Clutch & Flywheel

They are really general figures, but I think they're definitely in the correct ballpark. I dont think its out of the question to spec the car for 8k... it will cost more if labour charges are included.

On a side note, if you're wanting to stick with a 2.0 then Wilky is selling a Newage JDM STi bottom end for a grand with uprated bearings etc over on Scottish Scoobies... that'll save you a bit of wonga and will also take that sort of power too.

Cheers,
Grant

if you build it yourself then thast about right, if not then you have labour to go on top of that which will push it way way over the 8 grand budget

Buy one that already has the mods done and save some money.

8k will get you a 400bhp classic Scoob. Then you can keep whatever you sell your own Scoob for.

There is some guy selling a black 2.5 converted one for £8,500

I bought my 400bhp one for 7k, which i wil be selling sometime soon for the same.

Save the cash! Credit crunch and all!

for a 2.5 all singing all dancing to run 450/450, turbo, clutch and fly, injectors, mapping, fmic, induction, fpr, oil cooler etc you are looking at around 11k. put aside 500 quid for hoses clamps as some will no doubt need doing, all supplied and fitted and base map.

then you need the 6 speed, prop and diff can be had from 1800-2200 on here and ebay then cost of fitting you will be up to 3k so all in all 14k, it has been an ongoing project for me as my clutch went so popped a 6 pseed in and lightend fly wheel at the sametime.

i have been working figures for weeks if not longer and spoke with 3 of the tuners on here and all have come out with a similar build for around 11k.

it can be done cheaper on secondhand parts but the if it goes wrong who will warranty the build for you and if you want to risk it for saving a grand or two to have it go pop then be out of pocket the 9 or 10k then thats is up to you but it sure is not a gamble i woul dbe willing to take

best of luck what ever you do

Written off STI8 + big turbo + clutch + re-map = transplant and 400/400 if not more.

Includes Brembo brakes, six speed gearbox, rear lsdiff, nice seats....

imho

Have a word with David at Api for an idea of what a comprehensive, professional, warrantied job will cost.

I'd say closer to 10k-11k
