Default ARG HELP! ENGINE TROUBLE.

O dear,

1 mil from home, im in 5th and put my foot down a bit to get onto the dual, it juddered a bit and didnt accellerate, even as itusually does when off boost. Though i was just going to slow. But then it did the same in all gears.

I can hear the turbo spooling but its got about half the power. no engine light, and its juddery with the power. It just seems un healthy.

There is a tapping noise coming from the engine. It doesnt sounds like knock, but still doesnt sound good.

Does this ring any bells? Only just got in after a ****ty hard day at work, only went in the scoob as i got a nail in my focus tyre yesterday. This better not be engine replacement time.

somone please offer some words of advice.

Im to tired to rip it apart now

i have a sneaking suspicion the dp gasket may have failed. Also the tapping is not uniform. like it skips a tap not in a pattern. more like something loost.

i dunno. any tips for stuff for me to check?

PHEW!

Was thinking it was either ic piping or exaust gasget popped off or something. However the knocking/tapping sound was deep i nthe engine and sounded terminal lol.

So anyway i took it all to bits and it turned out the cap o nthe spark plug had managed to unscrew itself, and the HT lead popped of of cylinder 1. At least it was the easiest plug to take out.

So took it all out, screwed it back on and off we go. Was idling **** when i started, but it has been run on 3 cylinders for 2 miles i guess its just adjusting itself. Given it some beans not all on a test drive and its pulling hard again. The plugs themselves looked fine, new even and so the HT leads.

Only had time for a 5 min test drive really. will see how it works on the commute tomorrow.

I was |-| this close to cancelling all my orders for stuff lol!

Pre-emptive PHEW! untill tomorrows ride.

The plug itself was so easy to undo i didnt think i had the socket on it.

Also whilst dissassembling, there is a fiar enough of oil in my IC to the intake manifold. The car does get used on track and fast road, if i go for a hoon very rarely it will throw a puff of blue smoke the next time i start. I guess its just the return spitting some oil through with hi revs. Sure an oil catch can will sort this.

Perhaps i should change al the plugs and leads as well just in case (even tho they are new from previous owner).

Have seen this problem before on a previous car, totally different symptoms tho.

So pre emptive happy again will post again tomorrow if its all good.

Also the scoob spark plug for my JDM STI 98 v4 is a 10mm socked. COuldnt find that info anywhere on the net!
