I think some people have used metal polish, but you won't get them out completely.
I took my doorcard off the investigate once, and there are small "brushes" on the window runners. They get rock hard when they have all crap and dirt on them, and trap grit. That makes them scratch the window. So you should try and free up the bristles now and then. I think you can do it with the window down.

I've used the same method for getting small scratches out of glass, including a car - as you would use when figuring and polishing an optical mirror before the aluminium overcoat.
(My hobby is astronomy - including building telescopes.)
Use a fine grinding compound, to get the scratches out- then 'pitch-lap' to polish the glass until it's transparent.
Lots of elbow-grease needed - bit it does work, and isn't too expensive.
(It was free for me, cos I already had the stuff in the shed)
You'd use this method, except he is moving the mirror - you would 'work' the 'tool' rather than the glass.
YouTube - Polishing of a 6" amateur telescope mirror
Incidentally...
Did you know that 'Subaru' is the Japanese name for the star cluster we know as the 'Pleiades' - and the stars on the badge are meant to be an approximation of the cluster......

And I just realised - the Pleiades would make a pretty 'apt' avatar for me
