Blue dragon, speak to your dealer if you have paint chips - it should be a warranty issue. If you haven't, it's worth checking if they can improve the plastic film on the rear door area.

I bought my 09 last month, but according to the Metasat docs it landed in the UK in June 08. It's got much better clearbra (plastic film) coverage than the early 08 models - so Subaru must know about the issue or they wouldn't have improved the protection on the rear doors.

I'm with Silver Demon - the Rally Armors reduce the risk considerably

I've got multiple paint "marks" (more like needle ******) on my rear wings (10k miles)

The near side is obviously worse than the drivers side.

Just ordered some rally armors and will be talking the car to my dealer very soon.

The paint chipping on the yank Impreza is they don't have the sill mouldings like the UK & JDM models.
My S GT is ok on the doors & rear arch even with 18 in alloys & 225's, my concern is the bonnet & front wings from other peoples stones, why they don't put a plasticider in the paint on the rest of the car like the bumpers.

I've noticed that Midichlorian's rear arches have the larger clear bra strips, but other 09 cars are still sporting the same as the 08 cars (older stock?) which is a small square just above the sill line in front of the rear arch.

That would explain why they can undercut the other importers so much, probably bought them when the pound was stronger against the Yen.

MY08 STI and got paint chips everywhere, down to metal in places, paint is seriously thin and looks like nail varnish, did not have this problem with my Bugeye...even got diamondbrite installed over the paint when I bought it...I will kick off a bit at the next service

Rally Armors on mine from new and no paint chipping. They also keep the car a lot cleaner.

Subaru of America have formally recognised the problem & post a solution for stone chips on cars produced before March 2008 with the earlier (smaller) protection film coverage.

Larger thicker protective film - part #s - IWSTI.com: Subaru WRX STI Forums

Might be useful ammo for those 08 sti owners looking for UK dealers to resolve their own paint issues?
