Default I can't believe my luck(or lack of)

I have only had my Impreza for 3 months and in that time ive spent a fortune on it. It recently had a full major service at the Scooby Clinic which included all belts, oils and filters and a rolling road session. I regularly check oil etc and it gets well looked after. I was on nightshift last night and managed to get away at 3.20am. I left work and went onto the motorway and was doing 50mph as the motor was still cold and I never put my foot down till at least 15 minutes of driving it. All of a sudden i heard a knocking noise, and before I could pull over, BANG. It sounds like all the internals of the engine are rattling around and its knocking, banging and making awful grinding noises. I managed to get it to my garage where i store it. Ive had a couple of mechanics looking at it today and they think its the bottom end. Ive been advised never to start it up again as the conrod may go through the block. Im at a loose end with this car now and dont know what to do. What is it worth? Its a STi V3, White, Saloon and needs an engine rebuild. Thanks in advance, Chris.

Probably better off buying a second hand engine - there should be a few around. As to what it's worth with a blown engine, dunno £1500 +/-£500 maybe???

Where in the country are you ?

I know a lad who is breaking an STI, and the motor is available.

Where are you based?

Speak to the likes of API for advice and maybe they have an engine that will suit. API have a very good rep, not too sure how close you are to them...

Dont part with the cylinder heads! Theyre like rocking horse sh*te; valuable and rare.

the car has approx 70k on it. as far as im aware it was original engine not rebuilt and had standard STI MAP and always ran on v power fuel. have contacted API today and will cost approx 3000k for rebuild and fitted.
to be honest iv had enough of the car and imn goin to advertise it for £1500 with the blown engine.
i dont really want to buy a second hand engine as you never know what happened to the car that it came out of, what sort of abuse/ serviciing it has been exposed to.
