Notice something though?

Wen the price goes up the duty doesn't.

A fact many in here seem unable to grasp.

but the amount vat paid of course reflects the total price so more money is made anyhow!

Flat VAT AND DUTY is the only fair way to tax fuel in my opinion!

And until there was almost riots they were going to put it up a further 2p a fact that many people on here DO seem to grasp!

Couple of points:
1. Why is the diesel product price higher? When diesel is less refined than petrol and should cost less to produce.
2.Why does diesel cost more to deliver? Same methord as petrol (by tanker), same distance to the same fuel station.

I'm assuming it's supply and demand. Diesel is (so says that program on the discovery channel) a bi product in the refining process but the demand is getting so high that it will naturally push the price up!

The delivery thing I dont know ..... who says it does? Not heard that one before... or does it weigh more LOL ???

because the demand is now much higher it used to be the other way round and petrol should be more to transport considering how much more explosive it is

diesel comes in from a few countries to the uk because demand is so high,so transport cost are higher and this is reflected in the price.sadly diesel is overtaking petrol.

Yet when the oil companies put it up 30p everyone has a go at the government

I think it is taxed way too much, but there does seem to be some weird logic going on whenever the price goes up. If the government put 2p on it everyone calls them, if the oil companies put it up everyone says it is taxed too highly even if the tax hasn't altered

I'll repeat ... they do get more tax because the vat is charged on a percentage hence when the cost per litre increases the amount we pay in tax on 1 litre of fuel also increases. So to then at the same time as the price per barrel goes through the roof to look at putting a further 2p on it (bear in mind they would have already be getting this through the additional vat we were paying on the fuel) is a bloomin mickey take.

duty is fixed, vat is not.

Also the price per barrel is based on worldwide demand and hence fluctuates both up and down .... where as duty remains a fixed amount so if they had of put it up a further 2p we'd now be paying an even more extortionate percentage of tax.

....... more to the point we already pay far far far too much tax for road use without that money being pumped back into the road system!

I could be wrong but I have been told that for each barrel of oil refined less diesel is produced than petrol.

i think petrol quite cheap really

I was paying £2 a gallon in 1985 -- so @ 85p a litre its only doubled in price in over 20 years

i think we will be paying well over £1.50 a ltr in a year or two

just supply and demand

you cant blame the OPEC countries, why would anyone sell a finite resource for any less than they can get

every time they sell a barrel at $30 its a barrel they can't sell at $70 etc

coz once its gone its gone

LOL load of crapola!

Not a chance in hell not unless you reckon the world is suddenly going to jump out of recession? I'll be amazed if it's back up to full steam within 2 years, and in the end its us richer economies that drive the pricing. If we all have no money, we're not buying cheap stuff from india/china, so they don't require the fuel or in fact have the money for it etc etc etc

More to the point even when europe and america had had their longest periods of sustained growth and the demand for world goods was at its peak it still never drove petrol to 1.50...

Hurrah at least we have the **** economies to thank for something !!
