Default how to and how much does it cost to get into motorsport

ive been to one or two trackdays but for a while now i have wanted to build a track focused sti v. ive seen some great projects the green one in the projects forum was very impresive. how much would it cost to build a machine of similar spec. for a relatively new person to track driving what are the costs of the car nothing stupidly extreme as like i said im new to all this would it be better to build the car myself or buy an sti 5 and strip it out. anyone who is already up and running, people who are doing there first real go at it this summer and people like myself who are desperate to get into the fast growing buzz of track days or building a car for the track please get hold of me and tell me what your doing thanks

Question is how much money do you have spare if anything goes pop or bang, scoobyclinic will build you a out and out track car ready to race using a type RA shell with 300+bhp for 15k or with SC450 package which is a bit extra and you get race driver coaching from andrew mckenna, There will be guys on here that will know more about the cost of running a car at events like Time attack, sprint series, hill climb etc. good luck

IMHO start off with public track days to gain experience and then if you really want to go full hammer, then consider competition events.

I would also suggest you start off in something cheap like a 106 or even a 205 Pug. Easy to maintain and cheap to run.

If you intend to run a Scoob AND you want to get serious AND you have to pay others to do the work, it can turn out to be expensive.

It may help if you give a clue to your budget.

Are you looking at building the car to do trackdays or to actually compete? As I think the answer to your question is very different depending on you intention.

This would be ideal for you, but may be over your budget....

You can sprint your current car for the cost of a licence, fireproof overalls and a helmet, say from £250 upwards. No mods to the car required at all bar some minor things like a timing beam splitter which you can knock up for peanuts.

For me track bars were OK but nothing compares to full on competition.

If it's racing you want to do then I agree with other, chop the scoobie in for something cheaper.

Time Attack may be your best option, but budget between £8-£10k for the season (more if the engine pops).

I'd also recommend looking on www.bigpower.co.uk as a few of the guys on there are involved in different sprint series, aswell as Time Attack
