Default Which Skyline?

Hello everybody.

I know this is a scooby forum. But i figure to get the best honest advice initially not to ask a skyline forum.

My bro has decided to join me on the track and is after a skyline for about 3-4k.

What should he be going for / avoiding?

He is doing lots of research outside of this post but recommended clubs would be fine.

And more importantly. how would they stack up to MY98 STI?

Im guessing more potential to be quick and big power. but initially a boat. 270bhp ish? and suffer from less grip and worse brakes due to the extra weight. I could be talking out my **** tho.

So yeah? Suggestions

Dont really know a great deal but looking on autotrader and e bay, plenty to choose from, would have thought at this price though not gonna have massive power and gonna be a totally different car to your scoob. Different power delivery , handling etc, personally, would of thought that a version4/5 sti you have even as standard would be quite a tool on the track mate.

yes it is awesome on track. This is for my brother not me.

I would prefer him to get something other than a scoob and he seems to like skylines and wants AWD.

hi
he's gunna get a real dog/knackered gtr for that money.........if at all. ive had gtrs for 9 years and to be honest my vers4 sti would run rings round a big fat gtr on a tight twisty track. unless you spend decent money on uprating and lightening the gtr i wouldnt bother getting one for a track car.unless he's loaded and thats before it blows up. all imho of course.
against a stock gtr your sti will brake later, pull out of corners quicker, handle better, only thing the gtr might do better is in a straight line once up and running if theres a long enough straight.
ive gone the other way.... bought a sti for my track car as there mint straight out of the box.........

yeah i know. but i have the sti. Thats my thing .

What about the gts/gtt? They seem to be able to cope with up to 350bhp. He isnt poor and wants to mod it up. Just needs to find something which will cope .

I'd bin the idea of a skyline for track use. You wont get a half decent GTR for 3-4k and GTS-T's will be RWD and next to useless unless properly modded.

How about an early evo?

ahh ok. Yeah early evo is an option.

What other cars would make a good track car. the 200sx s14 would could be a monster. But again rwd no tc.

I guess ill just have to find another mint sti for my bro to buy.

Which means im ofc going to have to mod mine a little so its faster. This could get expensive!

Tell him to get a 98 spec JDM ITR, my mate is looking for one and we took one for a drive yesterday... It would make a very very good track car.

So you won't let your brother have an STi because you have one? How bizarre!

Seems some skylines are awd gts4(?)

Just been looking at some evo's. They are not as expensive as i first thought. Plenty of 3's and a couple of 4's within budget. Spec wise they seem brill. Excellent mlr club full of info. And a brotherly scooby evo battle sounds like fun.

GTSTs are a capable car if you mod them well but an S14 will be quicker and handle better for less money.

my mate has a r33 gtst and its poop got the basics to it mods wise buts so slow it only runs 16 sec 1/4s and late 15s on a good one.
i was on the skyline oc for a while i was thinking of getting one and at 300-350 bhp there only getting low-mid 14s so as for line speed there not great.
my mates has had nothing but trouble and its expensive and majority of the parts that he has had to get are all imported to so hes waited weeks for some.

Stock spec im sure there 155 tops 6.7 to 60 and a 255bhp
you can get some decent ones for about 3500 from looking at whats about but making them handle good seems like lots of money the first thing you gota do is dump the 4ws its causes nothing but probs and makes life driving fast very hard my mates just has a mind of its own.
big power doesnt always meen a good car and imo there just not good they struggle to put power down and dont corner very well atall.

if you look at youtube youl see 500 bhp cars running 12.9s and 13s

my two fav cars would be imprezas and st205 or even 185 celica gt4s a good celica st205 with basic mods are very fun and quick pretty much on parr with imprezas just a bit slower
