Yes: it's a typical "I'm abroad and I've not seen the car but I'm going to buy it anyway and I'm even going to pay extra for the privilege" scam. I feel a little sorry for anyone who genuinely wants to buy a car in another country because there are so many scammers that no-one will ever believe them.

This IS a scam. There is no doubt at all. The email is generic. They spend all day sending the same thing to every car in the site.
Engr's personal assistant wont meet you, He will send you a cheque for just over the asking price.
His cheque will show as cleared in your account and you will send him a cheque for the amount he overpaid.
He will cash your cheque only for you to find in 28 days the check he sent you has bounced and your out of cash.

Send the email to autotrader for there fraud team. You could also leave his number lying around somewhere, and maybe someone with a whistle might phone him.... and when he answered they might blow the whistle down the phone... you never know, some people do stuff like that to scammers.

That's not the case anymore. Banks now take the risk of fraudulent cheques; after the funds (via cheque) have been in your account for 6 working days they can never be taken back out again. That particular scam seems to have had it's day.

Seems like a load of bollocks, I had the same sort of email when I had my clio 172 up for sale on piston heads (god i hated that car!)

also u see the ones SELLING cars saying their over france or whatever and the car is garaged or could be shipped over.

I've heard of a local guy here who saw an immaculate beemer convertible on ebay, new shape one. He was even in contact with the guy for ages, calling each other etc. He re-mortgaged his house to get the money, and paid it all into the sellers bank in cash, and he never heard from the seller again! Dooped thirty odd grand. feel sorry for him, although he should of been more careful in the situation with such a large amount of money.

TX.

Edit - at the very least email him back & wind him up for a while!

lol, scam for sure, but sadly as said it makes it more difficult for overseas buyers

im in northern ireland and myself and my dad both bought our rb5`s from england, it was a complete nightmare both times as sellers just thought we were full of crap.
