Default Tuning WRX PPP

I have a 2005 WRX PPP and am looking for tuning options.

I spoke with Power Engineering and they recommended changing the manifold and exhaust alterarions, they said the standard exhaust is restrictive, but at a cost of over £1k I am put off with this mod.

I am looking for advice for alternatives to get the best power for the buck.

On a similar note - I fitted a KN panel filter but found the car not responding correctly at 4-5k rpm, I think, in my inexperience it could be fuelling when fitting a panel filter, so I put back the standard filter and the car seems fine.

I am happy to visit places in NW London area for tuning options.

Thanks.

full decat exhaust will help loads but you'll need a remap - should see about 280bhp from that.

beyond that you're into the territory of uprated fuel pump, injectors, STI8 intercooler, turbo, ported headers etc etc.

Basically, get your wallet out

My 03 WRX manifold is coping with 380bhp just fine as far as I can tell. For £1k you should be able to get a decent exhaust, bigger turbo (vf35 2nd hand) and a remap and get 330+bhp.

For me, the next step would be a sportscat downpipe and a decat uppipe and a remap. You will not get much (if any) change from £1k and will increase your bhp from 261 to around 285. Whether you think it's worth it is up to you. I wouldn't bother changing the manifold and you can buy pipes s/h off ebay to save £££s. An uprated fuel pump is recommended but not essential.

To get much more power, you will be looking at turbos and injectors and a remap. I'd say that would be well over £1k on top of the above.

remap alone will get yu far more performance than just chnging the headers and exhaust, best bet full decat, remap and jobs a fish, untill you get bored of that anyway lol

New headers not worth it at your stage. Porting and wrapping the OE ones is the way to go, combined with a decat/sports cat exhaust, good panel filter and remap would see circa 280bhp similar torque and be fantastically responsive.

Agree with the above. Decat up-pipe, stick the panel filter back in, remap.

That's exactly what I'm in the middle of doing at the minute and you're right - it costs about £1k if you buy the parts second hand.

As the OP already has the PPP fitted, is it really worth £1k for 25ish BHP?

If you want significant power increases, it's new turbo, injectors, fuel pump, clutch, brakes + £££

Depends what you want to achieve. When I got my WRX with PPP the turbo lag annoyed the sh**e out of me, so I changed to a decat pipe and the sportscat downpipe which made a big difference. Then I just got carried away and upgraded to 340 bhp, see my scooby for details!

Total cost just under 3K, this includes the remap, dealer labour costs and VAT. My dealer helped me out with some good quality secondhand parts etc.
