Question Fiat Grande Punto or Suzuki Swift?

Not my cup of tea but my girlfriend wants to get a new car and likes the above, both have good reviews and some good deals, just thought I'd see if anybody owns/has owned ether or has experience of ether? personally I prefer the punto tho not a big fan of fiat...would be glad of any opinions or maybe an alternative? Mazda 2?

Cheers

Ive had both cars. Traded the 1.5 glx swift in for a 1.4 tjet turbo punto.

The swift was a good car but I prefer the punto. Its got a bigger boot and more space inside. More gadgets. And a turbo

I drive a swift. Had it two years and its a brill car. Its the base 1.3 model, 5 door.

Good points: Cheap to insure, tax and good fuel economy (actual of 54.5mpg on motorway).
Driving position is good.
Looks nice.
Roomy interior (for a small car anyway).
Build quality is good.
Good residuals.
Cheaper to buy new than punto.

Bad points: Not many dealers around.
9k service intervals (on mine anyway).
Boot space is small.
1.3 engine is underpowered, especially on motorway.

My choice would be another swift, but I am a bit biased. And I've never been a lover of Fiats. Having said that, the new punto does look nice.

Good luck with your decision.

Neither, but if I was forced to choose it would be the Swift. The missus owned a Punto a few years back and I hated it. Terrible brakes, made of paper (a pheasant almost wrote the front end off) and the head gasket went (as they often do).

Swift everytime for me. One of the best looking small cars at the minute and gets good reviews everwhere. Grande Punto looks ok, but it's a Fiat, and that makes it a definate no-no

Punto all the way. Fiat isn't as it used to be anymore. Great chassis and engine and looks good. It was designed by italdesign - Giugiaro (who also designed one of the latest maseratis). Giugiaro didn't charge Fiat for the design!
Suzuki has crap steering feel.
Book a test drive and try them both before buying.

Thanks for the replys guys I prefer jap cars to Italian myself too especially Fiat, the new punto looks better to me than the Suzuki (looks like its trying to be a mini to me) my girlfriend has got her heart set on a swift though, its just the Punto looked a good deal, think when it comes to it she should test drive both as posted.

Cheers again guys
