At last !!! import WRX has finally arrived after a 6 months of hell waiting. Scoobynet probably made it even worse after every new owner posted messages of how fantastic their new acquisition was !

Anyway now its my turn, and yes its certainly been worth the wait. Been thrashing around the A & B roads of South Yorkshire all day and am really struggling to keep below the 4000 (surely a small excursion up to 5000 can’t do any harm ?).

I see the 1000 mile coming up pretty soon so would appreciate best recommended local dealer from either Sheffield, Chesterfield, York, Mansfield, Doncaster etc for my Service.

Any more MY01/02 owners in the South Yorkshire area, give us a shout !!!

Graham

Hi Bob,

Snap, picked mine up from Bentley's yesterday and also got a pretty cool ** WRX plate !

Been pretty impressed with Bentleys, was will informed on progress throughout the delivery period and got the car on the road as soon as possible after fitting a small fortune in security systems !

It might not be a good idea to post your reg numbers chaps.

People can 'clone' them and use them on their own cars, which can cause all kinds of problems for the legit owner(you get all the speeding tickets etc).

It's also possible for people to use your reg no to identify the car for theft.

Now the chances of the above are reasonably slim, but i'd hate to take any needless risks. But in the end it's up to you if you post your reg no's or not.

Just a thought.

Welcome Graham !

As Bob has said I'm picking up my Silver WRX on 1st March. I found Triangle of Chesterfield (end of Dronfield/Unstone bypass A61) okay for servicing, though the majority of servicing done on my current MY99 was done at Bentleys. The sales guy at Montys where I am picking up my car said they are undercutting the other nearby dealers by £6 per hour. I think I will be taking mine there.

P.S. Bet you are all wondering why I didn't go for an import and save £££. Well, the answer is I just couldn't wait....

By the way in response to WRXBOB's post I am having a Tracker fitted £230. Then its £99 per year. Sounds expensive BUT I will save £300 pa on premium as I can insure through Directline on the net who insist on a Tracker. Piece of mind too

Hi Guys,

Collecting mine from Belgium in the next few weeks - WR blue 5 door. Been speaking to Max the Clifford Dealer about security - he recommends the Asset Assured tracker or, alternatively Navtrax. Both are around the £450 mark. I'm often round your area, so I guess I'll be seeing you guys around. No special plate on mine, I'm afraid - I'll have to see what the DVLA allocates.....

Cheers, Harry.

Hi all!

It looks like the roads of South Yorkshire and the surrounding areas are going to be filled with new WRX's very shortly...

Just a thought, and its probably a stupid idea but...

couldn't a group of us get together, then select a suitable garage and ask them to do us a group deal on servicing etc?

After having been in the motor trade in the past, and knowing how things are nowadays, I'm sure a dealer would happily give us a very good discount (at least 20%) in exchange for having all our servicing and repair work.
After all, the biggest charge they make on the bill is for labour, and they dont pay mechanics very much... I should know, thats why I got out of it.

Its just a thought !

Dont know about the logistics of it

I'm off to reply to my emails now (you know who you are )

Cheers

BOB

Interesting thought, Bob - a group buy on servicing! I'd certainly be up for it - any other takers??

Thanx for the response guys,

It does seem as though this part if England is getting its fair share of new scoobs and am certainly looking forward to getting to some of the local meets and meeting fellow owners!

Had a few waves today from both original and new WRX scoobs, thanx for the welcome guys !

Mr Emery, you're obviously a long term scooby fan in this part of the world, who does your servicing and how do you rate them ?

I've been knocking around Yorkshire for the best part of 15k miles now. Venture into Doncaster now and again.

My car goes to Burrells for serving BTW.

Might do a meet one day... have to see

might be wrong here!
but if you a member of sidc you can get money off service with bentleys in shefield.
also used all the dealers in the area for service at on time or another (last scoob did 73k in 3 years)
use my local dealer in lincoln now, as good as any i have used. and is happy to keep warinty up even if you fit non dealer mods ,ie scooby sport stuff, salesman is very knowlagble.
for reasons of lible(wife lawyer ) i would not post up thoughts of dealers in doncaster on the net but if you want my feelings of the other dealers drop me a email , happy to help.
ps having a RR session in chesterfield and a meet at same time .
see midlands forum , might be intresting for you chaps

WRX BOB Where is Bentley`s in doncaster? I carn`t find it in Yahoo search.
Someone asked the question on this thread somewhere (new scooby on order from Belgium) will it be 2001 or 2002 model? I don`t know either ..told the aerial is on the roof at the back of the car..but I`m sure iv`e read somewhere that it is now in the first two printed circuit lines of the rear window, above the heating element! anyone know?

Hi Bob - picking mine up same time-ish. Can confirm that the aerial is built into the screen (at least on the 5 door), and that the only other difference is the illuminated surround to the ignition key barrel.

Hey Graham

Getting mine on 1st March...the waiting has been killing me...

Its Silver with the morrette headlights and will have a cool reg plate on it

Another guy on the bbs, "Yorkie" is from South Yorks & is getting a Silver WRX early March too(according to a post of his)... going to be loads of them round here!

Where did you get yours from?

Getting mine from Bentleys of Sheffield - importing from Holland

Have Fun

BOB

On the Dealer side of things, I went into Monty's Sheffield to ask about servicing, they were a bit lacking in knowlege and were wrong on several points.
Have had a good recommendation for Burrells of Doncaster though, so may try them out (their about 5 mins from M18 jcn4? )

after fitting a small fortune in security systems !
Bentley's price includes a Cat1 alarm system, so what else you had fitted?
A Tracker? What sort? How much? etc
I was thinking of fitting the RAC Trackstar...

What colour have you gone for?

Was speaking to Chris (salesman at Bentley's) a couple of weeks ago, he said there were a few WRX's due in, yours would have been one of them, mine should be arriving mid Feb, I hope!

What do you think of their new showroom? Its got to be better than their old place. Went past on Wednesday, they had loads of cars in...

Is yours the MY02 model & not the older MY01 model? if so, whats the difference, where is the aerial now?

My new reg plate will be " ??????? " so if you see it on a Silver WRX with morrette headlights give us a wave

About the 'RPM' thing in your original post, the worse thing with a new engine is to make it 'labour', that is to put it in a high-ish gear at low revs and try and pull away...that is far far worse than the occasional excursion up the rev range...so dont worry about it, enjoy it !

from a very jealous, impatient but excited...

BOB

EDITED AFTER READING THE COMMENT BY NEIL !

Hi

Bentley's are in Sheffield

Phone: 0114 276 9003
Email: bentleyssheffield@lineone.net

www.bentleysofsheffield.com

Their new address is 48 Suffolk Road, Sheffield. Its about 400 yards from their old place on Shoreham Street.
Their new place is just off a roundabout on the ring road

They call themselves (sp?) a "New Car Franchise Supermarket" and are selling lots of different makes (all Full UK spec Euro imports AFAIK) Subaru, Audi, VW, BMW, Renault, Vauxhall etc etc

I will be picking up my WRX on March 1st, unless I have it delivered the day before so I got it from midnight

You can tell them "Rob Bailey" recommended them to you.

Cheers

BOB

Edited 'cos I forgot your other Q's

The Bentley's imported WRX's are the later MY02, this should be the same everywhere as I think they are built to order, hence the long arrival times!

The aerial is now built into the rear screen.

Hope that helps
