car jackings do we still buy imprezza's
#1
I have been looking into buying a WRX for about 6 months imported from europe and now with the spate of car jackings etc i am not so sure. i could possably stretch to an imported STI but i think that is even more tempting but will it by as the thieves will know it comes with tracker as standard? The way i have thought of finding this out is to ask if any P1 owners have been car jacked or had the car stolen etc as i think they came with Trackers as standard.

Theres been a few P1's that have been taken
One I remember was on the A3 in Guildford. RS Turbo nudges him so they pull over to swap details and they then get in his P1 and drive off............

food poisoning - do we still eat?
There does seem to be a lot of press coverage recently, but how many cars are just stolen and don't recieve any coverage, so you worry about it less

The point i was trying to make was do you make yourself atless of a risk buy buying a car possably more desirable which has a tracker as standard so hopefully thieves leave it alone or does this not effect the risk of being car jacked, and therefore by the cheaper less desirable car. As to letting this control your life i just want to be sensible i dont want to leave myself or family open to violence or burglary because i want to drive a certain type of car.

Adrian,
I think that a european import car would be less prone to be jacked. That's because it would be more difficul to place it in the black market. The only way would be selling it outside england or selling as spare parts.

Average Car Jacker has probably not got a clue about Tracker. If he did, he would be deterred. Sadly not all though.
Check out BMW bbs. M3 old stylie and new. Plenty of car jacking going on, TT bbs also on the up.
Sod 'em
They are absolute scum
Take care and enjoy, things like a bbs can concentrate views and opinions and make you worried.
Dare you to read the Drivetrain forum and come away without thinking that your car is about to explode
Just my view

I am keeping my doors locked all the time when I'm in my WRX and especially at petrol stations.
If someone bumps you up the back, check out how many people are in the car, if in doubt stay in your car, take the details of the car and if really worried call the Police and always leave a gap from the car in front of you if you need to get out of a dodgy situation....

As storm555 say - keep your wits about you. The old ones still happen - dustbins in driveways when you get home, get out and move it, cars gone. This has been happening for years since the RS has been about - nothing new !
PS Anyone got one of those 'alarms' that squirts dye at the driver if a code isn't entered

Adrian,
I'm following all the advice on security/trackers etc. I've ordered a BlueBlack 5-door on the basis that it will attract less attention from cops & robbers than, say, a bright blue STI with something off a 747 on the boot.
May or may not help, time will tell.

Yes i take the point that life is full of risks put i want to minimize them whilst still being able to enjoy myself. Like i wear a seat belt when driving not with the idea of raming somebody but with the knowledge that there is a risk of a crash and it possably helps to protect me if that happens.
Back to the point surely the people doing the car jacking are knowledgable enough to know what car they are stealing and therefore if it has a tracker fitted or not? they must know its standard security equipment because they know that they can't just hot wire it outside your house and that it is worth the risk of car jacking.
Also i work in west london and it is very depressing to see the police signs up requesting information about a murders or violent assaults as you drive about, like the man who has been murdered over near Battersea which i passed yesterday they now say that it could have been a car jacking gone wrong.
Where i work the streets have a number of 911 and other £80,000+ cars parked on the road every night do they suffer the same problems. apparently this is a low crime area. But the yellow boards for information are more frequent.

Cheapest Anti Carjacking device known to man or beast?
Joke shop fake Dog S##t.Put it on your seat on leaving your motor.
It helps if you also have a "I love Corgis" sticker strategically placed on the drivers window.
Would you want to get in & sit down?

Buy and enjoy whatever you and your budget can handle. **** the scum, they won't rule my life.
Keep your wits about you and rememember that the guy who died at New Year lost his life for a Rav4. So what's next, stay at home from work incase you get hit by a bus. @ the situation but will own whatever i want.

I thought that the scumbags don't care if you've got a tracker, because they'll nick your car and park it up for a while to see if the police turn up. That way they can check if it has or not. The scumbags even wait (in another car) while the police turn up, they then just laugh.
But you do get your car back....

Adrian,
Have read todays SUN page 8?.
Apparently a team of 50 detectives has been assembled to sort out the problem in London, Manchester are doing simular.
Basically some chef Police gezzer "Commander Robert Quick" is trying to make sure this problem doesn't get anymore out of hand.
Anti Car Hijack systems can be purchased also.
Cheers.
Ian.

Adrain F - I see your point, I slept better once the P1 had gone... But at the end of the day, you can be targeted no matter what sort of car / home you have, as everything is desirable to someone, less fortunate or otherwise. All you can do is fit the best security devices, early warning systems etc... to your home and car, and don't live in Park Barn in Guildford
Its a sad state of affairs when you have to worry about owning something cos you are afraid you'll get attacked and the item stolen.
Alex
PS. following the trend above - STDs - no sex ?
