Finally!
Amazing, redirect the funds from Speed Cameras away from the local Camera Partnerships and back to central government and suddenly there are more effective safety measures available than speed cameras, funny that!

Herefordshire has in a 25 mile radius, it's all single Rural "A" roads with very little to no dual carriageways, with lorries only able to do 40mph & shed loads of Tractors/balers.
"They" have introduced Speed cameras, extended all 30's 40's & introduced 50's zones, which has nearly irradicated NSP zones, extended double white lines. We have now our main road link to worcester (21miles) daytime journey taking about 1-1.25 hours. Early in the mornings I can do it under 22mins with rigourously obeying all 30mph zones
Guess what, with all these safety innovations above, supprisingly the countys road death toll has been increasing.
IMHO what they have created
1) "Frusrated" drivers sat behind processions of slow moving traffic then overtake in stupid places.
2) "Young" drivers taking to "B" roads to avoid Cameras
3) "38mph everwhere brigade" annoying the hell out of EVERYone
IIRC
IMHO they should try the opposite create Dual carriageways creating a faster road with far safer overtaking oppurtunities.

I could not agree more Tony
(When I said we'd probably see more vans... I was talking about speed camera..sorry SAFETY camera vans, Wiltshire's getting their money's worth out of theirs that's for sure)

my route to work consists of a few sections of 40 and 60mph single carrigeway
that always has a que of people following somebody at 25mph
dare try and overtake one of these 25mph warriors and get a mouthfull of abuse, lights flashing, and generall harrasment
on the 60mph section early one morning, i over took and as luck would have it, i got held up about a mile up the road at some lights, said clown then pulled alongside and started giving me grief
in the end i snapped and told him to STFU and did he relise it was a 60mph straight road?]
which of course he claims it was not, because he was to thick to notice the signs
just before the section of 60mph road starts, a scamera hotspot layby was installed to catch people speeding up early
on the other side we had one of them flashing 30mph limit signs installed to remind people of the limit at that point, honestly its been up for approx 1 month, i drove past last night and its been removed ??
the roads surrounding the car wash area are signposted at 40mph
25mph is the speed that most drive at and just makes people do stupid overtake moves in the wrong places to get past

"The government is clear that the best safety camera is the one that takes no fines at all but succeeds in deterring drivers from speeding."

Saw that whining old bag of an MP Ann Snelgrove who is opposed to it all on sky news today. She wound me up that much with her ugly mush and attitude that I instantly wanted to strangle her..........had to make do with an email of abuse instead
