Ok... these questions may sound dumb, but please help. I've been looking up the newest STi and in the process for some other interesting info, that i'm not quite understanding. Any info you can tell me on any of these cars would be appretiated.
Why does the Japan STi have 276hp, and in Europe only 261hp??
If the WRX was released in 1992, why do we only have the 2002 model?
The STi came out in 1994? With 247hp? The type RA Sti has 271?
Impreza 22B-STi ???
Impreza P1???
Impreza Turbo RB5???
And as far as the newest STi in the US... when is it going to be released? What are the american specs going to be like?
Thanks!

Allow me
Firstly, welcome to ScoobyNet! ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
1) The Japanese STi has 276bhp because they have less stringent emissions and noise regulations than Europe (let alone the US). We have to have smaller exhausts and fuel the engine differently to meet these regulations, which unfortunately means less power. However what happens in real life is that the minute we owners get our hands on them, we put proper exhausts etc on them and get them back up to 270-280bhp immediately![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
2) The WRX in it's original form (1992-2000) was never released in the US. It was released as the WRX in Japan and Australia (and probably some other places too). Some people in Europe imported it from Japan if they were keen! In 2000, the 'new age' Impreza became known as the WRX world-wide. The 2002 model is the first one to make it to the US.
3) Not sure exactly when the first STi version came out - all that stuff should be in the SIDC FAQ (see your original thread!)
4) 22B: Japanese special edition; UK version was "22B Type UK" which was limited to a few hundred cars. 276bhp (but see * below
) 2.2 litre engine instead of 2.0 litre.
P1 : UK-only special edition; 276bhp on UK fuel and emissions regulations; limited to about 1000 but not all are sold even now, a year after it came out
RB5: Another UK-only special edition, named after Richard Burns (Rally Driver) using the number 5 in the World Rally Championship; two versions: the basic one had a standard engine (208bhp), the WR Sport had the Prodrive version of the engine (about 237bhp?).
Terzo/Catalunya/McRae/... all special editions. See the SIDC FAQ again.
* In Japan, you can't quote more than 276bhp. Silly eh? This means that most Japanese-spec Imprezas are quoted as having 276bhp (or 280ps - another way of measuring power) but quite often make a lot more than that.
I'm afraid I can't help with the US specs for the STi - try asking the dealer

Enjoy!
Cheers

Note that the WRX sold in Australia is essentially the same as the UK turbo (i.e. 208ps/218ps). The only places that officially got proper WRX (i.e. 240ps-280ps) are Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei and Cyprus.
The first STi came out I think in 1994, it had 250ps engine (if I remember correctly), the STi II came out in 1995/6 with 275ps, then the STi III came out in 97 with 280ps. There were just too many versions in Japan and it's quite confusing.
The New Age STi will be in US within I think 1 or 2 years time. Just enjoy your MY2002 in the mean time, and don't forget to upgrade the brakes and wheels.

The original Impreza WRX was the turbocharged version of the Impreza in Japan, it had 240ps to start with in 1992, gradually rising to 280ps at the end in MY00.
The turbocharged version of the Imrpeza was sold in UK as the Turbo and it has 208ps to start with, rising to 218ps from MY99 onwards. The Turbo is also called the GT in most LHD markets. Oz/NZ uses the WRX name for their turbo version of the Impreza but they are the same as UK cars, and they don't have the high output of the Japanese versions.
US/CDN never received any turbocharged Imprezas between 1992-2000, as the turbocharged EJ20 engine cannot meet federal emissions standards at that time.

Upgrade wheels & brakes on US WRX cos they only come with 16" wheels and 2 pot brakes as std.
Cars shipped to Brunei are all RHD. AFAIK, there are no factory LHD GC8 WRX. Those LHD Gr.N WRX are built by Prodrive.
