With all the talk about car jacking, yesterday it nearly happened to a friend of mine!
He was driving his Scooby to the bank on Hucknall Rd, parked up and took out his money from the hole in the wall. He then returned to his car started her up and locked the doors (thankfully) as he always does, just as he was putting his wallet in his pockets two black guys tried to open the passenger and drivers door, telling him in no certain terms to get out! Clutch dumped and a lot of smoke later my friend was clear unscathed.
I think a lesson here, too close to home for my liking!!
Lock your doors people.

Happened to my brother in Manchester on Wednesday morning as he was leaving for work. Got into his car, put the key in the ignition, then the drivers door opened. Two blokes with balaclava and big spanners, demanding he get out and give them the keys.

He managed to get away with the keys and some bruising to his hand and face, and they ran off when a neighbour came out to see what was going on.

According to the police, there were seven car hijacking in the area that night - probably an organised gang. Won't be long before the government starts slating the car companies for making cars too nickable (so it's not really their fault)!

Scud8 is correct - there were a number of hijacking attempts in the North Manchester area (around Bury and Prestwitch mainly) on Tuesday and Wednesday this week There was a similar spate of attacks a couple of weeks before Christmas SO BE CAREFUL

What seems to be quite common is the "they ran off when someone came" bit. These are cowardly b*stards who try to take the opportunity of catching someone on their own.

Seriously guys, keep this stuff in mind when choosing where to park - are you going to be returning to a deserted spot where you'll be easy prey?

I know chivalry is dead, but anyone who feels vulnerable should ask a (preferably large male) friend to accompany them back to the car. Better that than get beaten up, mentally scarred for life and lose your car, wallet, house keys etc etc.

BTW I was attacked when I was 16 when two guys armed with knives decided to try to steal my motorbike. If there had been other people around I'm sure I would have been safe.

Yo Doc!....more bad news...they tried to get in our house on Wed night 8.00 while we were in!
I heard a bang at the back door (locked), went to check, no one there, so i assumed it was the wind (I know...TW*T!)and thought no more of it. About 15 mins later a neighbour comes round and tells me that two of em were seen in our back garden (we had the back curtains drawn). He gave chase and they jumped into a white Peugot 205, he got the number but as ususal it's been stolen since last year (according to the police). They reckon it's kept in a lock up in our area and bought out for burglaries and a lot of car theft.
The bad news here doc is that i live just a couple of miles from you - judging by your username, so keep you eyes and ears open coz they're definitley targeting our areas.
Would have been amusing if they'd got in though as they were both described as small...you'd think they'd do a bit of homework on just who lives in the house - even the coppers saw the funny side of that scenario!

He was driving a Series McCrea (spelling), and no he doesnt have internet access so only visits the board when he pops into our workplace.
Just hope its a isolated incident

Most clifford alarms have a facility when you start the engine the doors will lock, see your manual

Don't know about other alarms?

Spooky

All the more reason to buy a nice sensible 5-door and keep its nose hidden!!

I am sure that modified cars with big exhausts (announcing to EVERYONE they are there!!!!) - big spoilers - and a whimpy IT geek driving MUST be favourite targets .......... anyone agree???

Take care anyway!! I seem very free of trouble?? dont really know why I have never heard or seen anything to worry me??

Pete

On Thursday leaving work, a guy walked between cars and down the drivers side of my car whilst at traffic lights, he had a shaved head... I shat my pants and locked the doors.. it was just an innocent guy crossing the road.. All the hijacking threads had got me paronid..

Then I read this and it is in Nottingham.. and I go there once a week at the moment.... seems serious but still a bit disjoint when it is in a different city to where you live / visit.

Be careful out there and doors locked.

Pslewis - I wouldn't feel too secure with the Wagon.. they might want more room for a particular job... I am still going to be careful in my Wagon. Also a wagon is less likely to be stopped by the Police so they might prefer that to a big spoilers gold wheeled four door...

Hey JGM - not the only one.

I was sat at some traffic lights on my way home the other night and noticed some people on the central reservation. First thing I grabbed for was the lock on my door to check I was locked in.

The Sigma alarms on the MY99 (and other years I presume) can auto-lock the doors when you start the engine.

Demondave,
The guys were on foot, i dont think they had a car with them, obviously the mcrea they were tryin to get into was blue
Its Richards (dick - silverScooby - Ilkeston) uncle. We just passed him on the way home after it happened. god knows why he went to the dodgiest bank in the area??
Regarding being followed, I dont know about you but I`m always aware of people on my tail and NEVER go the same way home night after night just in case.
Keep Safe, oh and hows the repair going??
