Default Oil question ...... dont hurt me .....

Simple question ....

I was advised (by reputable company) to purchase 15w50 oil for my 2006 STI with PPP. (About to get remap expect about 340ish bhp as my torque is already at 340 without any mods)

I do a lot of miles in it (300 ish today for example) so it will get hot especially as summer approaches.

Anyway ,,,,, the simple question is ....

will this oil bugger me up or do I just need to let it warm up fully to temp before booting it ?!?!

(read many oil threads but I'm sure they're designed to confuse even more LOL)

You need to let any oil warm up to operating temperature before booting it, depending on weather conditions 10 miles normally does it, hotter = less but still id give it 10 miles, colder = more so 10 miles is minimum.

I read on a website (silcoline I think) that the 15W50 is actually the operating temperatures that the oil is viscously stable at. So for example 15W50 is stable from -15C to +50C, which is why people confuse it with a differing viscosity. I'm sure someone will be along to blow this out the water soon though.

15/50 is too thick for that engine under normal conditions including the quick stuff! You should not need anything more than a 10/40 and preferably a 5/40during the winter.

In simple terms it means that at 0C the oil flows as a 15 weight oil would and as a 50 would at 100C

... don't hurt me ...
You should try asking whether to use synthetic, semi-synthetic or organic oil

Silkolene Pro S 5w-40 Try Opie Oils product finder.
