Default Are Subaru services worth the money?

My WRX needs a 60,000m service. It's 5 years old and has a full Subaru service history to date. The thing is, money's tight and I'm tempted to go to the local garage for a service, and save myself £200 or so (Subaru have quoted £484 all inc., whereas my local place is more like £280). I'm a woman driver and I don't race it or do track days or anything that exciting, and I'm averaging about 10,000m a year since buying it.

Obviously I'm concerned that it won't sell on as well eventually if I can't boast a full Subaru service history, and I guess no Subaru dealership would touch it to sell on as a used car. So I thought I'd ask you lot what you think? For example, if you were buying a 7 year old car and you came across 2 that were identical except for their service history, how much more would you be happy to pay for the one that had the full Subaru service history over 7 years as opposed to the one that had 4 years with Subaru, then 3 from a local garage?

Any advice welcome!

Thanks

Sarah

couldn't easily put a value on it milage and condition more important to me.... but if there were two identical then it would be an easy decision one I'd pay a little more for (depending on the value of the car at the time)

I wouldn't just go to a local garage, I would go to a Subaru Specialist though.

I had a 60,000 quote from my local Subaru dealer it was £350 + VAT so £411 all in.

Local specialist quoted £350 inc VAT so it went there instead.

I would be wary of the quote you've had, it is a big service and nothing to do with track days or otherwise this is basical safety and car not falling off the road service so:

Spark plugs
Fuel Filter
Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Brake Fluid replace
Coolant replace
Diff Oil replace
Gearbox Oil replace.

See if the £280 quote includes that lot.

5t.

i wouldnt go to a dealer ....i go to jd performance in derby...both the chaps used to work for subaru and the prices and customer service are second to none......quite a few from mid scoobs go.....well worth a visit if its your neck of the woods.....

but to answer the question any service is worth the money.....rather than no service at all.......

Servicing at subaru garages is often carried out by apprentices or people that generally dont give a toss about your car...although of course they arent all the same. I prefer to go to a specialist as they take a genuine interest in my car, and as they regularly drive seriously quick cars the wont be wanting to take mine out for an unnecessary blast!

Yea subaru are a complete rip off!! I had my 30000 service done 3 weeks ago and Subaru wanted £500!!! and thats only for spark plugs, fluids and filters!!So i went to a local sub specialist and got it done plus new wipers and white side lights fitted for £250!!! if you have someone else near hand that have a good rep then use them, thats my opinion.

I'm in the same position, i've just booked mine into a local garage to save myself the £200 odd . I was quoted £500 inc vat for the 60,000 miles service. I think because of the cars age + i plan to keep it for a year or two, in the end it wont make much difference to price when i decide to sell it.

at scoobyclinic, the 50-60k service is £316 inc VAT, the 60k-72k one is £506 inc VAT - that basically covers everything is says needs doing in the service book, if you can change the oil, coolant, fuel filter and plugs, then you'll cut that right down, for the sake of keeping the stamp in the book anyhow.

There are plenty of specialists well recommended on here so go to one of them.

A local garage is ok up to a point but there may be other issues with the car that they do not necessarily have knowledge or experience of and as someone else has already said, this is not just about changing the oils and filters, its also to do with safety - yours and the other road users around you.

I can understand you wanting to save several hundred pounds. The car is now 5 years old and as long as the service booked is stamped - and you have the invoices to prove the stamps - then whether its Subaru or specialist won't make any difference as long as the latter is held in regard.

I have the same query - phoned a dealer ship i used lots before and they quoted £600 for the 60k on a STI. Phoned Subaru 4 you and it was nearer £300.

Same parts are used at both so it must be labour rates?

50K service for mine will be due (eventually) now I believe that includes all the belts- so big money.

any idea of cost as I reckon its about 500

personally as I bought car from subaru- it can go back there- but what specialist are there Bradford ish that can be trusted too.

I don't want some half arsed fool touching my car-- at least when stuff goes wrong with main dealers its easy to get sorted under warrenty etc.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a potential wind up post?

Thanks for all your replies. Definitely not trying to wind anyone up!

Next question - anyone recommend a specialist in Gloucestershire/Bristol/Herefordshire type area?

Thanks.
