Default de-cat

I'm looking to buy a downpipe and centre piece for my wrx newage import as I already have a prodrive back box. Is there a cat on both the down pipe and centre ?
Also, is it a 2.5 dia exhaust I need ?
Will I need to buy gaskets for these, mine has done 17k, just wasn't sure if they need replacing ?

Cheers.

There is a downpipe Cat, Cat and then a (Centre Section) resonator not another cat. It looks like one but is really a silencer.

That's not quite right on a newage
There is a cat in the downpipe, then a further cat, and then the resonated centre section.

I keep the downpipe cat, then a de-cat and had a straight through and no MOT problems

Don't forget that if it's a Bugeye WRX (I don't think other Newage WRX's have got it but I could be wrong) there is also a cat in the up pipe!

It is a waste of time removing the second cat. If you want to get any benefit then you need to remove the cat in the downpipe. Most decat pipes will replace both cats on a newage. Decats are not road legal, you need a sports cat for this.

I'd recommend a remap if you change/remove the cat in the downpipe. If you change the second cat, centre pipe or back box you won't need a remap. You won't gain any power but it may make your exhaust sound better, especially by removing the resonator in the centre pipe.

Hes wanting to upgrade the turbo for an Andy Forrest TD04 Hybrid, and thus a remap aswell so thats not really an issue.

So, could he just get away with buying a Sports Cat, would that just replace the d/pipe cat? You could do this, and then just get a full decat for the next section and a straight through middle section? Or will it still fail an MOT?

weso - Its a blobeye mate, and a Euro import aswell, not a JDM (if this makes any differernce?)

Just decat it then and either find a friendly MOT tester or keep the OEM downpipe for MOT days. A sports cat may pass, but this is not guaranteed.
