refreshing to have a newbie who has done some research before asking the same question that hundreds have asked before
On the Sti bhp, almost right. The quoted figures are in ps. So V1 had 250 (not 260) ps, V2 275 ps and V3 280 ps.
You'd bet lucky to get a good V3 for £4k. Best to look for a mint V2 or up the budget to about £5k.
WRX bhp:
92-94 - 236 bhp
94-96 - 256 bhp
96-00 - 276 bhp
You are correct that 1st Sti was 1994.

only thing i would say is try and get one with a few "nice" mod's.ie alloys,exhaust....mine was totally original which was good but i've just bought a exhaust and am looking for some rims for it,you would'nt be long spending 1k plus doing just the simple stuff

classic sti ra v-limited colin mc rae
If you are looking for a real drivers car there is a classic colin McRae ra (n reg) on autotrader for just over 4k its a fresh import at rpm imports and looks unmolested . I own one of these special cars and it is fantastic --light-weight glass/body panels , the last of the sand-cast engine blocks, a fifth injector , short shift gear-leaver and a dccd (driver control center diff) It also has colins and derick signatures sewn into the seats. These are one hell of a car to own.
