I had both of these mate......

Fitted the Racebox and it really looks the part - quality is very good - but if its Scooby noise yr after forget it - its a very quiet and subtle exhaust...

I then fitted the Prodrive one... Sound was vastly improved but still a bit quiet for my liking... I'm now running a Afterburner Vortex - angled exit....

Looks and definately sounds the part - like a Scoob should!

I've had STI's fitted with the standard backbox, the Prodrive one and currently an Afterburner Vortex (angled exit, like Andy). The Prodrive sounds much better than the standard, practically silent one, but the Vortex sounds that much better again.

You should be able to pick up a Prodrive one pretty cheaply second hand though, so that might be worth factoring into your considerations...

Ok decision day

three to choose from thanks for the advice so far

1. racebox found clips of it on youtube without decat and sounds ok but "little" bit quiet don't know if the clip does it justice or not

2. Prodrive back box can't find any on ebay at the moment.

3 afterburner vortex Impreza Turbo 2006-2007 : Subaru Impreza Exhaust - The Legendary Afterburner

guess this is the one mensioned above. not sure what you mean by angled exit though.
any one know if 2 and 3 sound any good without decat? does 3 sound good or rediculusly loud?

finally does any one know if scooby world carry stock of these as i live close and could be there first thing

Afterburners are usually always in stock at scoobyworld....

Best backbox sound by miles - not ott - angled exit gives maximum performance as less bends in the pipework - like straight though system..

mmm was typing in impreza backbox so that proberbly limited the results.
however i still can only see three but they state classic, p1 or 03 sti (don't know if this will fit 2.5ltr 07 wagon).
I had just about conviced myself from the advice to go for the vortex but not sure now wish i could do a poll between the three.

its harder to decide than choosing wagon or saloon!

Without the angled exit pipe you do lose that someones-just-driven-into-the-back of me effect somewhat

If you want the proper burble you'll be best getting a straight through centre section as well.

I've got a Prodrive back box on my Bug, its a lot better than the std one in sound, looks and the build quality is very good and I'm at least the 3rd owner. Volume wise I think I'll be removing the resonator pipe and possibly the 3rd cat to give it a bit more (maybe a couple of ponies too!).

Ok guys thanks for the advice. Finally made the plunge today after looking for a long time. In the end i finally went for a race box as the vortex looked just to (sorry) chavish. The race box looks the bizz, very well made and fitted a treat.

Unfortunatally its a little difficult to notice the difference, so i'm going to have to fit a center section though pipe.

It looks like there are two to choose from one with performance silencer and one without. Which should i go for?
Cheers.

by the way the racebox came with a free afterburner panel filter

Racebox is silent - even quieter than the standard sti backbox

Afterburner = 100% grin factor and also gives better performance and sound is fantastic...

The quality of the racebox is very good chrome finish, it looks the business but lacks the sound..
