WHITELINE ALK
Hi all,
Thinking of getting a ALK fitted for my MY06 STI.
Any comments on whether this is a good mod or not, I heard it reduces lift and improves steering response?
Also, are they fairly easy to fit if I decided to do it myself? I'm no mechanic but I aint a dimwhit either. If so best place to buy?

I thought it was an excellent mod. The pitch and dive on the car is reduced dramtically. The steering response seems to have as well.
I don't know how much was contributed to the rear ARB and geometry though, all done at the same time.
Corners will cease to exist!!

I just had the rear ARB replaced. Understeer reduced quite a bit by that so I think the ALK will go one better. From what you say though sounds like the ALK would improve things even more

Easy enough if you've got some decent gear.... and a burly mate (?) !
But as you need the geometry doing, pay for the hours labour to fit them, I would consider doing the front anti-roll bar at the same time for even more grip....

agree with all the above
ALK is a great mod but i would fit the a Rear ARB and some a set of ALLOY Rear Drop Links too.
i did this to my P1 and it made a massive difference

agree with Dunx. If you fit the ALK you need the geometry sorting at the same time.
Like Gaz I had everything fitted at the same time so difficult to assess the rewards of that one particular mod.

Had the anti lift kit fitted and geometry done to my type r and whilst turn in was fantastic it made the back end so loose it was daft i was not impressed. Just look at proberly the best one which is roger clarke gobstopper subaru which cost them a silly amount of money to build, see if you can find an anti lift kit on that, you will be looking for ever they say not to bother with it. Hope this gives you the other side of it.

i wouldnt go looking at the "gob stopper" as i think the suspension cost about the same as my house!
if it was me i would look at the spec on some of the other time attack cars but further down the field. see what they have on and then go from there.

It destroyed the perfect handling i had with my type r back end became dangerous no chance of putting foot down coming out of a bend strongly suggest you dont bother with it i ripped it off and fitted a set of tein mono flex and she is perfect again. This might just be a case with the type r i am not sure but as i said before about the gobstopper i know the suspension that has is very expensive but that is a type r aswell and they told me to take it straight off!!!!

RonnieB - his geometry settings are what made the car "worse". IMHO - classics aint the same, a fully stiff rear bar made mine oversteer, fun for a while.... but once front bar and ALK went on the car just grips 110 %. So then I put road legal slicks on for a laugh, it's absolutely mind-boggling the grip now.

The settings are not what made the car worse as i had it set up at 2 different reputable specialists, im just trying to help you mate others might of had good experience but mine was crap to say the least

All you will be doing by fitting the ALK on its own is giving the car a little bit more turn in which will end up being more responsive, you will also feel it in acceleration,
However, if you dont uprate everything else, you'll end up with serious oversteer,
My car has Koni adjustables with Eiback springs, ALK, whiteline droplinks,front and rear whiteline roll bars, fully polybushed with no strut braces,
the ends up too stiff with the strut braces and is great in the dry but an animal to drive in the wet,
thats my two peneth anyway

I got chatting to one of the Whiteline guys at the Autosports show. Nice chap been rallying Subaru's for years and preparing his own rally cars. He said he changes a cars suspension starting at the back first. Not sure if it has any relevance but thought it might help.

Done it few days ago.
Anti lift kit, front and rear anti roll bars (22mm). Now, I can say this is the car I wanted. Beter grip in corners, very neutral. If you ask me, do it!

i had the springs, ALK, F+R roll bars and steering bushes all done at the same time. At first i never knew how i could drive the car before. Just thought the springs made the car a bit too stiff for the road
