Default Big bang at 70mph...front lip spoiler broken?!

Wondered if anyone has ever encountered this before...

While driving at approx 70mph tonight there was a big bang. I stopped to discover my front lip spoiler had split and was hanging off. It has only been on the car for a couple of weeks and has never be touched over speed bumps or anything else for that matter. Fault in the design maybe?? Seems very strange...will get some pics up tomorrow. Anyone encountered this before?

If the spoiler isn't mounted with enough holes then the extra downforce it provides will just snap it off.
What make is it?
The STi version uses about 10 fixing bolts to stop it blowing off.

It was mounted with about 12 or 13 fixing bolts. The mounts haven't come off as such but the spoiler has split midway :-/ Very strange

You sure you didn't hit something that then cracked it? A big bang could have been the impact.

This happened to me at a similar speed when a stone flew up from the vehicle in front. It obviously cracked my Scott Lowe lip which in turn damaged its structural integrity and seconds later it split in two. I actually felt better when I knackered the next one as a result of pheasant damage - at least I had hit something of substance which warranted breaking the spoiler!

The spoiler may only weigh a couple of Kgs but adds IRO 100Kg of downforce.
100 Kg pulling on a spoiler with only a couple of fixings may end in tears.

In this case it sounds like it was well attached though.

My 1 from ht autos did the same, these ones have around 8 fixings and it snapped on the motorway.

No impact with anything, just snapped and bent back under car.
