There's a garage near me that charges £55 all in, mot and exhaust swap.

I've just paid £70 to get it through. No swap needed.

Just had this done last week for the MOT, total came to around £85 ( £45 for the MOT plus 1 hours labour to take off and refit exhaust afterwards ).

Blimey, did you not ask for a fixed price ? well and truely fcuked on the face of it !

Most places its a special MOT fee (£73.38 local to me) and an hours labour to take it to and from the MOT station

christ - you can buy a sports cat for that money and save the hassle of messing around with exhaust swaps.

Is the 20bhp or whatever you get from a decat (probably not even 10bhp over a sports car) really worth all that buggering about? I think not.

I would probably expect a labour charge of approx 2hrs, thats if it goes easy according to plan. Off course with downpipes you can have difficulty getting some nuts off, access can be a pain etc etc so it could take a bit longer.
Agree a fixed price should be sought before letting them do it.

Anyone that lets the car go into a garage, 'have the cats fitted' and then mot'd, and then refit whatever system may be on the car is open for being rip[ped off, whats to say they didn't swap the system, and simply drove another car to the 'friendly' mot garage and stuck the probe in the wrong car??? my middle name is cynicle by the way.....

I replace my own centre section with a twin catted version, 20mins.... and then refit afterwards.... 20 mins.... on drive on ramps, not even a proper lift, with a 2/4 poster it should take even less time!!
