wrx or ctr

wrx or ctr
had a shot in my first wrx today and was well impressed - more than enough go for the likes of an old 40yr git like me.
anyway i also had a shot of a civic type-r - nice car but just didn`t feel as quick as the scooby.
anybody moved to a scooby from a ctr and give an honest opinion on how you found them ?
civic definately has the better interior - thought the scooby was very cheap and plasticky but when the power delivery started all that went out the window.
also the insurance and servicing costs are a lot higher for the scoob - £594 as a first try for a standard wrx (£350 for the honda) with an average of about £300 for servicing (£200 - honda).
any thoughts on the matter are welcome as i`m very torn between the two !

had a 2006 nhb premier and never looked back. To much under steer in the ctr and not grounded enough compared to the wrx. My services and ive had three this year were £125 each from a dealership.

thanks guys - i think the gap between them on the handling front would become even larger in the wet, type-r`s are apparently a bit of a handfull.
any advice on the servicing - is it worth keeping a subaru dealer stamp or would i be better trying to find a good independent (anybody recommend a good place in central scotland ? )

I ran an 03 CTR (Tuned to 240BHP) for 3 years, when I decided I'd outgrown it I bought the STI, completely different league in my opinion but not sure how the WRX would compare.

from what you have said in your original post, it sounds as if you have already made up your mind.
I think if bought the CTR, everytime you saw a scooby you would find yourself wanting one

but then again both of these cars are a considerable step up from their normal counterparts.
it would be a lot easier and cheaper to up the power of a scooby than the ctr as well.

yes i posted a similar post on the type-r forum (which is quite good as well i may add) and was told the civic is faster to 100mph - no real nasty stuff about the scooby though so a nice surprise.
i would be looking at a 2004 model for both wrx and ctr - the only thing i`m a bit hesitant on is the costs of running the scooby - why are all the good things in life expensive.

If you pick up a PPP'd wrx then they have a little bit more power out of the box (265ps) over the civic, though a standard civic will be faster than a standard wrx, but 4 doors is a bit more practical than 2 and even though the servicing is pricier its a bigger car.

interesting you should say a ctr is faster as it just didn`t feel that way at all.
maybe just the differences in the way the power is delivered.
will maybe have to have another shot in both just to confirm.

I also ran a CTR for 3 years, had an 03 plate and loved it but just grew out of it, now have an 07 plate STi and there is no comparison, never driven a WRX so can't really comment.
You normally find that CTR owners move to Imprezas, never really the other way around, overall they are much better cars mate. Get a WRX and either whack the PPP on it or go to a specialist for a bit of work which will up the power for hardly any cash and then you will be laughing.

I went from a MY03 STI Type UK to a 04 Civic Type R. I did the change in Feb 06 i still have it and love it.
Mine has an exhaust upgrade, induction filter, uprated brakes and a very nice looking carbon bonnet.
Its around 210brake and is really nice to drive wet or dry.
The Civic Type R is so much better in pretty much everyway way...
Running costs
Fuel Efficiency
Insurance
Reliability
The ability to park it in town and know its going to be there when you get back
But its not a Subaru and because of that my Civic is going up for sale in March and im getting another loan and getting an 07 JDM Spec C.
Every part of me is telling me this is such a bad idea.. but i just miss having 300bhp on tap and the sound and feel of a Subaru..
I have no problems with the Civic's handling, mine isnt lowered but you can take corners very fast and it corners on rails. But its grip will never be as good as a 4Wheel drives..
So I would recommend if you are looking for a really great little car that is plenty fast enough to have fun in and loose your license get the Civic.. its so cheap to run its amazing.
If you have money to burn get a Scooby!
Anything else you need to know please feel free to PM me
edit* Didnt notice you were just looking at a WRX .. The chap that bought my STI also test drove a PPP'd WRX Type 300 or what ever there were called.. Not sure.. Anyway.. He said there was no comparison between that and my STI..
So I can tell you i prefer an STI.. i have no idea about a WRX.. tbh i dont understand why people buy the standard WRX unless they have a family and enjoy corderoy

I owned 2 CTR's and they are far from slow figures for them (not the new ones) are 6.6 to 60 and 16.85 to 100 (as scooby555 rightly says faster than the WRX). Compare that to 6.1 and 17.45 (17.95 for the 2001 bugeye incidently!) for a WRX so those who say the WRX is always faster (bubba po) are simply biased and don't like to admit that the CTR can out drag (or at very least match) them, if both cars are standard. I am also pretty sure the CTR was faster round the top gear track at the time. The only reason the wrx out runs the CTR to 60 is it's better traction off the line due to the 4wd but this then disappears in the transmission resulting in two closely matched, very fast cars. From a rolling start the CTR would be hard to beat in a WRX.
The CTR's handling is amazing in the dry but naff in anything from moderately damp. Wrx is undoubtedly the better all rounder for weather in this country but its burble is matched by the CTR's "touring car" scream. The lack of torque isn't an issue unless you can't figure out where the power is when you need it. Lets be honest guys if you are caught in the wrong gear in a WRX/Sti they are slower than a nissan micra because the turbo won't spool up so this is just swings and roundabouts! Remember tractors have massive amounts of torque but I've yet to see one out drag a 1 litre corsa!!
CTR build is miles ahead and you won't find a better gear change, outside of a Porsche, than that in the CTR either, it really is quite incredible... try one out if you haven't already.
Over the piece the WRX is a better all rounder as well as being more practical but will cost more to run, the CTR does a constant 28mpg on mixed driving and I can't imagine that the WRX achieves this but maybe around 25mpg... perhaps. My STi PPP does 20 mpg consistently!
Sorry if I'm ruffling some feathers but I have no axe to grind, I am a car enthusiast and try to be unbiased. The STi PPP beats both these cars hands down but isn't cheap to run and, as such, would not suit everyone no matter how much I shout about it!
I am now moving to a Porsche Boxster S but I will never forget how good the STi is. It is the best car I have owned so far by miles and I would recommend them to anyone

well said les, a man with the same unbiased opinions as myself.
i like both cars but i`m torn between them mainly for the reasons ctr cheap fun - scooby feels better on delivery but drains more money.
dear vash - i would love an sti but yes i have a family and i`m pressing my cords as i speak...... plus i`m getting too old for extra hard suspension and 20mpg.
