I have just purchased a new Impreza turbo and have noticed that at just under 3000 rpm at a constant speed the car feels like it is misfiring very slightly. If I accelerate too 3500 rpm the car is fine. Could this be to do with the fact that the turbo really kicks in at 3000 rpm and therefore does not like cruising at this rpm.
Also when I am accelerating hard and change gear I get one single noise that sounds just like a seized brake pad releasing. Does anyone have any idea what it could be as I am new to Impreza driving and am slightly concerned about it.

Not too sure about the "misfire", could just be you sitting on the edge of the turbo band.

The "Whoosh" you hear when changing gear is the Turbo blow off valve, it is releasing pressure from the engine side of the turbo so that the back pressure does not spin down the Turbo too much, otherwise the back pressure would slow down the spinning of the turbo, and it would take longer to spin back up after changing gear. In other words it reduces turbo lag between gears.

(Flame suit on, cos I may have made that up )

When you say *new*, are you talking WRX my01 new?

Check out the "myoo engine surging" thread under drivetrain - last posted to on 22nd.

Both my Scoobs have done this to varying degrees. On my last one I fixed (well, vastly improved ) it by cleaning boost control solenoid plus associated hoses and the dump valve.

On my my00 I fitted a PPP - I now don't notice it...but suspect I drive around it.

Make it your dealers problem.
