Default Is there mean't to be an Under tray?

Is there mean't to be an Under tray on my classic scoob? as i went through a puddle and now have misfire hell at low revs.

I popped the bonnet and every thing was a bit wet and when i put the car on the ramps theres no undertray whats so ever, nothing to protect the oilfilter from being smashed of on a speed hump nothing

me, I bought a secondhand one for mine but never got round to fitting it,(also for your model not mine) so it's sitting in my garage taking up space.Yours for £10 but I would suggest a collection because of its size.PM me if you're interested.

They do come with trays, they are also left off because they are a pain in the rear end to remove and put back.

My Oil change takes me about 10minutes - tray on and tray off takes about 30minutes of pissing about!! I've snapped one plastic gripper thingy ...... and the small screws holding the sides in the wing are a right pain in the 4rse.

However, I always struggle to replace as it does more good than you think!

It should have one, but one word of warning - if it is fitted it will catch any oil leaks from the engine - if ( like on mine ) the crank seal goes, which can end up covering the belts with oil, then you wont know as the small amount of oil that leaks gets caught by the tray and soaks into the foam stuff on it.

I took my tray off and havent bothered refitting it ( not having any rallying planned ! ).

Wouldn't the Oil Dipstick show a loss of oil? - there's no excuse for losing oil without realising, to be honest.

My UK98 had one. But my Jap import didn't. I actually bought a replacement off ebay, but was advised not to fit it as leaving it off aided cooling. I'm sure there are pros and cons though.

Take the bonnet off and aid cooling some more

There are air scoops in it if I remember right? The protection it gives is worth much more than any perceived cooling effect IMHO.

doesn't it smooth out the airflow underneath having it on as well, though, aiding top speed (and fuel consumption (yawn))? E.g. touring cars etc have flat undersides, and all the bumpiness of the engine etc must cause a bit of turbulence, I would have thought.

I took mine off a couple of years ago when I fitted a FMIC, never had any problems with the car since, As already said by Pete, a complete nightmare to get on and off

I'm sure I also read somewhere that the engine (oil Temp/inlet temps) ran a bit a cooler with it removed

Pete - have you ever tried checking the oil on your Impreza ??? for some reason Subaru decided to invent the most random dipstick system in the world, and on a lot of cars its almost impossible to get an accurate reading.

But to answer the question, no it was a trickle of oil, not loads being lost - I would have noticed it with no undertray as it would have collected on the bottom of the sump, with the undertray it was hidden. As the oil can get onto the belts, which can apparently knacker them and wreck the engine, I'd rather not take a chance.
