Default Turbo Question

Hi guys,

I posted on here ages ago about a turbo but for some reason the website will not let me search my old posts
Anyway....I have a classic MY93 WRX Import and I am getting a new turbo for it. I have a new ECU which is for the later STi, I believe it is the TD05 turbo but I can't remember and want to be sure!! Is this the turbo that is on the STi's???

Cheers

Andy

The STi's tend to have VF turbos

For your car, Id suggest a Z4 ECU (MY95-MY96 WRX) and a Mitsubishi TD05 turbo. Seeing as you dont have STI pistons, you do not want an STI ECU.....

Ahaaa! The Z4 ECU was fitted to one STI model: the V2 STI 'Wagon. That particular model used a standard WRX Saloon engine, ECU & turbocharger though (giving 260PS as opposed to a standard 220PS).

bit of info for you first as i think you are getting a bit confused and some of the random posts aren't helping!

from 93 to 96 the wrx saloon had a mitsubishi TD05 (16g) turbo fitted as standard whether it be wrx or sti.

the WRX (inc WRX RA) from 93 to 94 had 240ps (w6,u8 ecu's etc...)

the WRX (inc WRX RA) from 95 to 96 had 260ps (z4, z5 ecu's etc...)

the WRX STI from 94 had 250ps

the WRX STI from 95 to 96 had 275ps

remember this is saloon only, if you have a wagon it all changes!

now if its a 93 wrx saloon, as Simon has said, the z4 ecu would be the best one for your needs.

the problem with fitting the sti one is that in the later sti cars (275ps) the cam profile was different so it will not be ideal for your setup.

the ecu configuration changed after 96 so any ecu after that will not fit.

hope this clears a few things up

Thanks for that info Jonny.
I currently run a U8 ecu and I have a Z4 to replace it.
I am pretty certain I do not have a TD05 turbo though.
Will the TD05 turbo run ok on a Z4 ecu??

The TD05 and the Z4 ECU will work together perfectly. What makes you think that you dont have a TD05 currently, as it is highly likely?
