Please make sure you check your fire/smoke/carbon monoxide detectors - or are going out tomorrow to buy AND install them straightaway if you haven't got them.
To get rid of smoke damage and the smoke smell, you need a specialised cleaning firm - next door's insurers will pay. I don't know where you are but call Revival
The Revival Company The Complete Cleaning and Restoration Service
I've used them - BRILLIANT company.
If they can't help you themselves they will probably know someone in your area.

........... bit of damage to yours? Are you able to stay at home, or is the damage bad that you'll have to move out for repairs to be carried out? It would be a miserable Christmas to have to spent it in a B&B.

Hard luck duck. just glad that no one was injured. Hope it doesn't spoil your christmas too much. When you've downed a few drinks it should look better.
Hope things improve quickly in the new year when everyone gets back to work.

A similar thing happened about 15 years ago at my parents house, about a month before Christmas the gas oven split and set fire to the wooden panels on the walls burnt the whole kitchen, smoke damage to the rest of the house. Luckily my uncle is a builder so he sorted out the house but the fire still caused about £30K worth of damage (15 years ago £30K was alot of money LOL ). We were out of the house for about 2 months and stayed in a rented house not too far from our house.
Good to here that you's weren't hurt and not too much damage done.

Some advice from our website:
After a fire or flood the process of cleaning up may seem daunting, but this section is here to help make it easier. The burning of materials produces smoke, which contains carbon particles and the smell of smoke will persist as long as these particles remain.
If you are in any doubt about cleaning your home, furniture or contents, contact a professional cleaning company. You will find a wide selection listed in your telephone directories.
Carpets and soft furnishings
These can be vacuumed, though make sure the cleaning head does not smudge the black carbon deposits. Special carpet cleaning machines can be hired from carpet stores, dry cleaners and DIY stores. Curtains can also be vacuumed while in position. For more information, contact a specialist steam cleaning company.
Painted walls and ceilings
These can be washed down using a mild soap or detergent applied with a sponge. Concentrate on a small area at a time and wash the soap off immediately. Re-painting should only begin once the surface is completely dry. Leather items can be cleaned by wiping them first with a damp cloth and then a dry cloth. Suitcases can be aired by leaving them open. If you are in any doubt, contact a specialist cleaner. Kitchen utensils will also need to be carefully cleaned.
In the Kitchen
Cutlery, pots and pans should be washed in very hot soapy water and rinsed in hot water. Kitchen utensils will also need to be carefully cleaned.
To remove odours from fridges or freezers
De-frost and wash all surfaces with water and detergent and then rinse with a solution of water mixed with baking soda (one tablespoon per pint of water). Then rinse again with clean water,
If your freezer has stopped working, you can still save the frozen food by keeping the door closed. The freezer will have enough insulation to keep the food frozen for several hours.
If possible, move your food to a neighbour's freezer. NEVER re-freeze food that has thawed and if in any doubt, throw it away
Food in tins or jars
If they have been subjected to intense heat the glass may be cracked or the jar no longer sealed. If this is the case, or if you are worried that the food may be contaminated, discard it immediately.
To clean the outside of jars and canned goods wash them in detergent and water, remembering to mark the contents if the labels come off.
Medicines or cosmetics
These should be discarded if you suspect contamination.

you really ought to be careful if it is that bad, smoke and its deposits contain many harmful chemicals including cyanide, have you spoke to your insurance, to me you should be staying somewhere else till the smell has gone.
