So out of 79 cars stolen, 3 were Impreza's....... not good odds really considering all the "highly desirable" motors out there......
Did they say if any "activations" were not recovered??
(edited 'cause I can't read, or count )

Trouble is soon it won't be an option...the only way to get cover will be to install a GPS Tracking system...
It maybe their £22k against your £700....but if it was the other way round, wouldn't you want to recover the vehicle to reduce the payout????
Basically the bulk of Scoob thefts are "stolen to order"...i.e. no longer the "joy rider"...and as such if a vehicle can be tracked and recovered with 30 mins....or the hour...that not only benfits you (i.e. no claim!) but also the insurance company...reduced pay outs!!...that way keeping premiums down for the rest of us...
IMHO...I would always....and have always fitted one of the many systems on the market....but thats my choice...

I'm renewing my insurance at the moment and i would put a tracker on if the premium reduction made it worthwile.......compared the premium for a cat 1 and a tracker on the AA website out of curiosity and there was no difference....whats the story

Finding a similar thing myself...
I have a quote which is over £200 cheaper and doesn't require a tracker than my other nearest quote... and the other one needs a tracker... I was all set to get one until this last quote.
Others seem to reduce the premium by nothing by adding a tracker or insist you have one.
Be interesting to know how many didn't get recovered.
The latest I hear when the subject of trackers is mentioned is that they are not much point as the professionals have a metal roofed building to block the GPS.
If you have ever tried using a hand held GPS you'll know how fickle they can be.
This is just hearsay mind (not the pop group)...

Think a lot of people are missing the bigger picture. Fitting a tracker is not so much about keeping your premium down but giving yourself peace of mind. Sure it would be nice to get a discount.
DirectLine would not give me a discount at all even though I got one fitted, but it gives me a bit of peace of mind. Mind you if someone did nick my motor then i'm not sure I would want it back.

I seem to remember that when the Tracker first came to this country from the US, they quoted figures in the region of a 94% recovery for cars stolen (in the US). I assume this figure has dropped significantly below 94% for them to no longer quote the recovered percentage...

another point is i would fit a tracker IF when they caught the blighter who stole my beloved they torchered and maimed him not slap him ever so gently on the back of his hands
bring back capital punishment hoorah (well only for scooby theft)
and as for reducing the need to claim (mr insurance man)thats what no claims protection is for isnt it?

OK few tips for you lot believing the rubbish about GPS that exists.
Its accurate to around 10m for civilian sets and works on triangulation, hence more satellites the more accurate it gets, 4+ for optimum locks.
GPS cannot be blocked by metal or any other material, solid lead may work but only if its completely microwave proof, so any thief claiming he just invented a GPS proof building is lying, it would take literally 150 grand and thoroughly inspected. GPS jammers have been invented but as you can imagine the military uses GPS for weapons guidance and is ensuring no one a) has them b) can use them. I would love to see someone trying to get a solid lead roof installed, talk about fishy!
A thief will never be in a position to block GPS unless he can find and disable the transmitter. Encasing the car won't work since the whole idea behind GPS is it will work from inside a cargo container!
