Default PETROL QUALITY TESCO vs SHELL/BP

Thought this, lifted from Smartarse [Smart car tuners] might be interesting:

"Higher rated 97/+Ron octane rating will reduce the chance of pinking/detonation.

While Tesco 99 Ron has been independently tested and shown to give more power than Shell V power and Bp Ultimate it does not have the same engine cleaning properties. See the below link:

Thorney Motorsport Fuel Test Results

and here for the Dyno results:

Where in the link does it say that Tesco 99 does not keep engines as clean as the other fuels, or have I missed it somewhere?
It's actually quite an old report - they talk of Shell Optimax, that was replaced a couple of years ago?

"Higher rated 97/+Ron octane rating will reduce the chance of pinking/detonation.
This is a commonly stated but misleading statement: I'd like to point out here that although this could be the case, the reason is because the car is not running properly. i.e there is something wrong with it!

If a vehicle is manufactured as being capeable of running on 95ron, it should not pink or detonate on 95ron fuel. Full stop.

If it is, and it is reduced by putting in 97/98 ron. Then there is a problem with the car, or its not tuned to run on 95ron. The fuel grade is not the issue, its the state of tune or malfunction in engine managment/carburation/ignition system that is the root cause. Using higher octane fuel in this circumstance does not solve the problem (dodgy MAF sensor, sir? ).

Where in the link does it say that Tesco 99 does not keep engines as clean as the other fuels, or have I missed it somewhere?
Another common misleading statement given by reviews and advertising by fuel companies:

All fuels have additives which clean and aid combustion. Be it Sainsbury's 95Ron, or Vpower. Tesco 99ron does have cleaning properties thanks to the added ethanol amongst its other additives. But that is only because it is known to contain that additive (I should point out ethanol, like other addtives can affect an engine's AFR, due to differing oxygen content present in the exhaust gas affecting oxygen sensor readings - read up on oxygenated fuels). Other fuels use various additives as well, all of which have octane boosting and cleaning properties. Be it 95Ron, or 100Ron.

I have the pink spark plug deposits to prove this

Shell V power all the way!
Will they make another fuel higher than 99 Ron? but loads cheaper than BP 102?

Ahh - I remember using Shell Super 101 octane in my Rover 2000 TC's back in the wonderful '60's I also remember it going up to 5 shillings a gallon (that's 25p in the Monopoly money we use now!)
