Std is a Mitsi TD04. With a remap it will be safe at around 1.3 bar and will push around 280 with supporting mods.
If you want 300-340 then look towards a VF35 (off newage STi) or a TD05

Err what do you mean by straight swap...
If you mean literally bolt on and go, NO.
The engine management will need setting up to the new airflow characteristics.
i.e it will need a remap.
To get the best out of the turbo change a set of Sti injectors and good free flowing exhaust would do wonders.
Can get some good results (over 300) out of a VF34 with the above mods)

You get the cats out of a UK car and with a 3" exhaust and VF34 @ 1.3 ish bar and the standard injectors are virtually flat out.

Perhaps that was the earlier model then.

Straight swap as far as nuts and bolts are concerned
As above - a remap is the way forward.

Poss dependant on set up....... my 440's are almost on the limit for the td05 i have @1.3 bar,so i agree to give some headroom bigger 550's would be nice, but not always essential.

I don't like seeing IDC's up in the high 90% region TBH, no safety margin.

I can only comment from my own experience i.e. Bob Rawle's comments when mapping my car (MY99) to 320bhp on the std 440s that the IDCs were absolutely fine. 1.35bar peak on a VF35 Turbo. With the usual exhaust, turbo hoses, fuel pump, ported headers, 3 port solenoid mods.
