Default Can anyone recommend a vehicle recovery company?

Hi, my car is stuck at home with possible big end failure and I need to get it to a place that's about 80 miles away.
Can anyone reccommend a decent and well priced vehicle recovery company?

Thanks

It might just help slightly if you hinted roughly where 'home' is, and where it needs to be got to.... if it's going to API, i believe they do their own collection/delivery...!!

Have you considering hiring a trailor for the day and getting a mate or relative to tow the car ? Its worth looking into as you could save a fortune.

I live in North London and yes I plan on getting the car to API.
That is very handy if they arrange their own collection, I shall indeed enquire.

Interesting thought, but would the car towing the trailer need a proper tow bar fitted?

Yes, you would at least find one mates car that has a tow bar fitted out of all your friends and family as its law of averages lol. A trailor is roughly £30 for the day, just fuel on top of that then. Here is a site for a rough guide.

Towing depends ona few things though... like, what license you have, if you're an old crock like me then you can tow a decent size trailer, but younger people can't without having taken a specific test.....

Also, to put an impreza's weight on top of the trailers weight, you would then need something pretty meaty to tow it safely, not really much less than a 4wd would cope that well.....

I'm sure API eiother have their own trailer, or have someone they use!!!

We have full, properly insured, recovery service that we operate from here as a concession to our customers. The cost is subsidised because of the work we are doing to your car, - so none of this pound-a-mile nonsense.

Depending upon postcode l'll quote. But we arranged to collect a car from Glasgow for £240.00 + VAT which is nowhere near a commercial rate. 338 miles from here to Glasgow, so a round trip of 776 miles

Call me and l'll get you sorted.

Thanks for the help, Ron and others.

David APi

PS as Ron says, there are specific rules about towing cars these days and we have just upgraded to a double cab Nissan Navarra to get well on the right side of legal, no matter what we collect. It is all about braking efficiency and certain constabularies [Leicester particularly ] will nick you for an overweight load and impound the whole rig until a suitable car is provided - How much hassle is that???

Something alone the lines of ' The towed weight including trailer cannot be more that 3/4 of the weight of the tow vehicle '. IE. you cannot trailer an Impreza with an Impreza tow car.

Dave from API makes some good points, i`m fortunate that i have a HGV class 1 licence so its no problem for me. Towing is not that hard to be honest if you do all the final checks correctly in that everything is connected up as it should be and all the electrics work fine along with the brakes working well (don`t forget the rear reg plate). The trailer just follows you, just take corners wider, reversing can be a lot of fun for those that are not used to opposite lock steering

Check your license, look up the codes on the DVLA... should be something like B+E for towing over 750kg IIRC.

I dont have the class on my license, but I've towed some pretty big weights ,oopsy
