Exclamation URGENT: Citroen dipstick tip broken off..!!!!

***Sorry Mods, also posted in 'other marques', due to urgency***

New one to me this, but my brother has just checked the oil on their Saxo and the plastic end of the dipstick has broken off and would appear to still be in sump..!

Being around 2cm long is this likely to get lodged somewhere critical..?

IIRC there should be a strainer on the oil pump pick up. Is this correct and would this therefore prevent and possible damage..?

Need to know asap as they're supposed to be going away in it for the weekend today..!

Bloody typical french engineering..!

Yes there is a strainer, so its unlikely to do anyharm. The only issue is having oil mist blowing out the dipstick tube whilst driving and making a mess of everything.

FYi Vauxhalls, Fords and Rover also have plastic dipsticks, which also go brittle with age or snap if flexed too much. Crap idea.

Yep, main dealer recons it should be ok and they've just gone to get a new dipstick @ £4..

It seems a lot of cars have this plastic end on the dipstick, why not go for the much simpler steel end like on scoobs..? then again they're not the easiest to get a proper reading from, although I don't think it's down to the stick design..!

Lol, even BMW use plastic tips..!

Thanks anyhow SM..

Years ago the same thing happened on a K-series Rover I had - hated the car so didn't really care and kept on driving it. Never went wrong, drove it for several years after that.
