Hey all..
Hi im Carl im 22 years old and from Plymouth.....
For the past 2 months or so i have been deciding on what performance car to purchase and after lots of diliberation (400 ****, hours in front of the pc, and 76 cups of tea later) i have decided on a scooby.
Iv'e liked them ever since i can remember for both looks and performance.
Having done the chav fiesta turbos ( the points and the bans that go with them)
and had a starlet turbo which i reluctantly sold when my insurance trippled... I really want a fast reliable car as i feel i have grown up a bit now and got all the "boy racer" out of me!!!!!
I'v found out a few things.... like im not paying what insurance companies want for me to insure an wrx, sti! so for that reason i am going to have to settle for a uk spec 2.0l turbo. Also i dunno if im right in saying so, the imports have ceramic turbo's, i do alot of miles as i work all over the south west and i believe the uk spec modal turbos are more reliable.
As im new to the whole scooby thing i thought i ask u guys on here for some sound advice about them.......... and also if anyone knows of one for sale (around 5k to spend) then let me know, i have the money in my account... its just the case of finding the right one, i dont wanna rush into anything cuz as iv found out b4 ... buy in haste repent at leisure
Many thanks in advance guys!!!!!!

Insurance is still high at your age on a UK Turbo. You mentioned points and ban's Oh f**k at 22 years old!
It's a myth that Jap Import cars are more expensive to insure, go to a specialist.
No they don't have ceramic turbo's.
For £5k you'll get something respectable and quick but the market is for the buyer at the mo so look long and hard.
You'll now start to receive advice from the completely mad b*ll*cks talkers to the sensible.
But welcome!

I'm from Plymouth originally. These boys have regular meets, South West Scoobies and it'll be worth speaking to Carl up at Sorensen Road Sport as well as Alan and Martyn at Alan Jeffery - Engine Tuner .
Tell 'em James Taylor sent you.
Best wishes.

Also you need to look at servicing costs, there is a fair (well BIG) jump between servicing a scoob and servicing a hot hatch, ie 1 year intervals on most hot hatches and 6 month intervals on a scoob but more involved due to diffs etc (and belt changes are far more regular!).
Lots of scoobs to choose from out there, lots of dogs also, but if you really want to get the boy racer out of you, go buy a BIG engined BMW (328/330 type), nice cruiser or a turbo diesel, that will slow you down

Keep the advice comin guys... many thanks for everything so far.... i know Alan jefferies through him working on my cars in the past but to be honest the amount of scoobies i see down there with blown engines etc does put me off a bit.... But then as i found out in the past... the very expensive way.... cars are only as nice to u as u r to them...

Dont be put off by the imports,my 1997 wrx import has done 113000 miles and is still on the original turbo. You just need someone reliable to service it.
