Is this a reasonable price?

Hello everyone, what an excellent forum this is.
Iv'e been hooked on Scooby's since? - A long time.
Now got the finances to buy my first car, but need a feedback on a car I'm considering buying.
It's a MY98, Reddish blue, 4dr, 82K, Cat1, 2 owner, Full dealer S/H, Scooby sports back box. The car is not modified (apart from the exhaust) and looks very straight, the seller is asking 9.5K
Your comments would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Admittedly the milage is high - motorway miles
I've been to see 3 cars in my area so far, all have been older but none as cheap as this one.
This price is my max and have'nt really seen anything to compare here atm.

are you sure it's a MY98???
Only reason I ask is a lot of people seem to think the model year is the year of registration - it's not.
My evidence is ever since setting up a database of these a lot of people quote a model year and a reg date that doesn't correspond.

Hiya
1. Is it a turbo?
2. Is it a UK model or an import?
If answers are:-
1. Yes, then good start
2. If its a UK then buy it - haggle a little but its quite a cheap price ..................... if its Import, its up to you but I would keep on walking!!
Oh, yes, if its got Gold Wheels its been owned by a right pancy - boy ................. you may think thats a bonus? Try and get a leopard skin handbag thrown it (the Gold Wheels come with one when new!)
Pete
Edited to say, the mileage is rather heavy my man - try and find out how the mileage has been racked up................motorway of stop-start?

Colour?
Dark Blue Mica is the one to have - Silver second
Cant say I fancy Farmer Green or that Pink Mica
Ok, OK, I just realised you said Reddish Blue!! derrrr!! well thats fine
Check all the body panels as these cars are made out of Bacofoil
The mileage is the killer, but a full service history and a properly stamped book should bring comfort? I think you could get it for £8600, 10% off is standard!! have a go - walk away if he says no (YOU can always go back, he might NOT get another buyer for a few weeks)
I am SO SO glad it hasnt got 'MariGold' Wheels!!

Scoobies are generally fine at for that mileage. One thing to watch is the prices of cars over 100k get very low so if are going to keep the car past that mileage prepare to loose more money!
Also remember the 90k service is an expensive one!
Its always worth checking www.parkers.co.uk for details of prices but that won't quote for a car with that many miles But it does quote £8620 for a 'Good' private sale with 72k miles 1998 car, so really an 82k with a £600 service due soon wants to be £8k ish IMHO. Get some negociating going if this is the car you want. But remember depending on how the car has been driven clutches tend to last 50-100k and the job is about £700 at a Subaru dealer (Can be done for half elsewhere).
Personally I'd travel a bit and try and find a 97/98 car which has just had the 45k or 60k service. There are more cars than buyers at the moment.
Happy Shopping
