Highways Agency - slower than Police in dealing with accidents?
Over the last couple of days I've been delayed for over an hour by traffic caused by minor accidents. On the second occasion I left the motorway and diverted.
However, on Monday an Army Land Rover had flipped on its side on the M4 between Swindon and Bristol (my wishes go to those involved for a speedy recovery).
Given that the injured had long since been taken care of, the Highways Discovery (on its own), kept two lanes shut for over an hour, waiting for two flatbed recovery vehicles. No attempt to use the hard shoulder to create two lanes past the accident and no attempt to move the Land Rover, despite the presence of several other army vehicles with winches. In days gone by the Police would have done what it took to get the traffic moving asap, using common sense rather than a job's worth attitude ...
