Quote from Ecutek website "The first time an EcuTek tuning partner tunes a particular car using the tools, a small license fee is paid to EcuTek."
This suggests the license fee is paid for the "particular car" and not the particular ECU. I'm afraid you'll be looking at the £550+vat hit for the first time remap. Sorry.

This is where the minefield begins, You need to find out who mapped the ECU the first time round.
If it's then mapped again by the orginal mapper the cost can be anything from £150-250
If it's mapped by someone else who wasn't the orginal mapper then the cost can be from £150-400
Sometimes vat is then added on to of this.
I found API to offer the cheapest remap on a ECU from another Mapper. I had a power engineering remap to start with and they did me a great deal but I had spent a bit of money with them.

Useful to know (having guessed wrong - sorry for misleading). I suppose there's not a lot of reason to swap ECUs unless one fails or possibly there's a PPP'd one than can be sold and a standard one can be substituted for remapping. When my car was remapped the PPP was just overwritten so I lost the potential value of it.
