Default Blown 2 MAF's in 2 days!! - Advice needed

I got my new car a few days ago, STI5 Type R, and its blown 2 MAF sensors in 2 days! Its now on its 3rd sensor, what could make the sensor fail? It got plugged in after the first one went and I was told the only fault code showing was the MAF sensor. Could it be that the last sensor was faulty or is there something faulty on the car that could cause it to fail?

Have you an induction kit? If so it could be that.

Look very carefully at the connections ........

The MAFs may be fine, could be the connections/connectors ........

I haven't pushed it didn't wanna risk it just drove it home from work and put it to bed. Did you get chance to order that oxygen sensor? Been told that when the MAF goes it can take out the oxygen sensor also?? That new MAF was definately in a sealed packet this time so doesn't seem to have been tampered with.

Please, lads .... check all the connectors!!!

A bad connection will throw up a MAF Error Code remember - the Error Code Software just knows it is detecting a fault in the MAF Circuit ...... that could be anywhere, connector, wire broken inside insulation, corrosion, bad earth, etc.

As PSL says, check the connector and the wiring. Make sure it's not a cabling/connector problem. Whilst you're at it, check the battery connectors and the health of the battery. The car's over 7 years old now and the electrics aren't bomb proff to start with.

1st off though, check the state of the air filter. Is it a normal dry replacement element or some oiled "performance replacement"? Have a look at the outlet end of the airbox whilst you're at it. Make sure there's no sign of fluid or other crap leading to the MAF tube from the airbox. When it's all back together, is the airbox and MAF tube securely, though not solidly mounted?

2 things tend to kill MAFs, contamination and vibration. 1999/2000 model MAFs aren't known as the most resilient either.
