Default strange running problems ..

hiya guys , im new so please be gentle with me i have tried searching but havent come up with much ..

i bought myself a WRX on a 92 K on Saturday morning and am absolutely delighted with her , but i have a small problem .

when i am driving along and go to overtake if i pop my foot 1/2 to 3/4 of the way down she holds a bar and boosts no problems whatsoever , however if i put my foot right down its as if the car is not holding the boost properly ,now its not losing boost alltogether its just flickering between 0.7 and a bar , quite violently on my boost guage , its really confusing me and i dont know what the hell im looking for to be 100% truthfull , im thinking im going to put it in the garage tommorow to get sorted i just wondered if anyone may have a clue whatsoever so i could maybe go into the garage with a theory ..

thanks in advance and i do apologise if this has already been asked but i have searched

When the boost gauge is messing about is the car actually driving alright or does the car jerk with the boost problem?
It shouldn't be hitting 1 bar as that is too high for an early wrx (0.8 is normal).Have a look in the ecu as it possibly could be chipped (lots of early ones were)

Is the car jerking violently? I had a similar problem with my boost gauge going all over the place, turned out to be a hole in the pipe to the boost gauge.

aaah sorry mate it is just under a bar yes !! the car doesnt actually jerk violently but you can feel it very slightly jerking
definitely not just the boost guage its as if the boost is dropping very slightly then reboosting so to speak ..

coil packs and plugs are a good place to start looking (cracks in the packs or spark plugs could be quite old ,i think regapping them is a quick fix).
