Reinforcement
Following on from a couple of recent threads about cars being knicked due to front doors being kicked in.................................
Owning a car like this has made me/most of you a little paranoid to say the least.
Has anybody knowledge of door reinforcing equipment that can be fitted to further secure our houses?
I have searched but found nothing, although I have some simple ideas of my own.
One idea is a telescopic metal pole, much the same as that you can put on your driveway. This would simply be secured in the ground internally obviously and covered with a door mat when not in use. (floor type permitting)
Another idea is a bar that fits across the door and slots into a bracket at each side of the frame. This can be lockable and also on a hinge type mechanism or taken off and stored when not in use.
Anybody any other sensible ideas?
.....standing by for those that say "if they want it they will take it" Not if they can't get in they won't.

I can understand where you are coming from here but I think there comes a point where you have to stop creating too many barricades. Not only from a fire safety issue but from a ending up living in a cage point.

But at the same time, having the family pet killed can be quite traumatic also.
Keys visible inside the house, but not from the outside, a tracker, an immobiliser like black jax, and car insurance.... that will do.

have thought about fitting electric gates (motorised, not charged lol) In 2 minds at the mo, but its an attractive feature, so worth thinking about. Just slows things down a bit.

The best bet is obviously a garage. Then lockable gates.
If neither are available, a post locked into the ground AND one of those New York Locks on the front door: it fits into a metal plate screwed to the door and another one on the floor, and leans at 45 degrees or so. Makes the door impossible to kick in.
But then, if the car is visible, what's to stop them coming round the back, through a window courtesy of a breezeblock etc etc.
Personally, I reckon a can or two of Mace from France, beside the bed, would deter a few of these *******. Then, when you've Maced them, YOU can go to prison for protecting yourself and your property, and THEY can have compensation.
Bliar's Britain, eh?

Alcazar.............now i'm interested in that device.
To some of the others...............dogs, gates, etc, etc are not going to stop the door coming in and that is the main entry/exit point for the majority, which should be reinforced. Then your personal armoury comes into effect.

don't bother with staffies get a Jack Russel, noise is what you want and lots of it if someone is outside thinking about breaking in. Jack Russels do the job beautifully and if you make sure people can't see in they sound a lot bigger than they are
