Sounds expensive to me, but I've only owned classics. If i remember i paid £90 for one brand new (My98 uk turbo). I'd fit it yourself it's a doddle, 5 min's work..
I'd try and source a second hand one - I sold one I had spare on ebay last year for £45.

have you tried a breakers, as im sure someone could source you a new one for less than that, maybe even have a spare on handy.
scoobyclinic
scoobybits
powerstation
tsl motorsport
graham goode
roger clark motorsport
could be some good ideas to contact.
or do m.a.f. sensors just come from main dealers brand new?

Hmmm, so the newage part is more expensive then.
I had mine fitted by the subaru garage (classic) and yes, they had to reset the engine warning light and test it.

The Newage MAF is now available as stevey says (even from Subaru dealers) as the sensor itself without the plastic surround
usually about £75 plus VAT
