Mate of mine has bought a Porsche 911 from Germany (1 yr old) and is picking it up this weekend. It will be driven back on transfer plates - trouble is, until he gets it here and registers it officially, it is only 3rd party insured on the back of the transfer plates.

All the usuals have told him they wont comprehensively insure him - so does anybody know what he can do to get fully comp insurance ?

Really appreciate any help.

My Scoob was insured on its VIN number from when it left Japan, A-Plan were able to do this, might be worth a call. 0845 0711234, Lee or TIm are helpful.

Cool

Can't he get insurance based on the ZZ plates like when they bring in new cars? Try giving vehicle importers a call and ask who they deal with for insurance when they bring cars over - some of them do drive the car over.

Frizzell insured my Scoob on VIN number & gave me a green card too when I imported it from Holland. However it was a new car.

Try and find someone who can drive any car fully comp.

Or pay the AA to tow it for him?

I was quoted only about 250-300 to bring my car from UK to Germany by a shipping company so maybe thats an option too. No insurance needed and probably competitive given ferry,Insurance and petrol etc

Surely the easiest answer is to get a German insurance co to insure it and to bring it to the UK on German plates. A business associate of mine has family in Germany and did this for a long time with all their cars.
