Not a penny with regards servicing. It will do less mpg and have higher insurance costs though!

As said before, the insurance and fuel will cost more with the sti. The bug eye wrx seems to be the least rated of all the imprezas as well- fair bit moreweight than the classic but no more power!
My friend has recently purchased a blob-eye sti (uk) rated at 265bhp. He let me have a drive and i thought it felt no quicker than my 98uk turbo ( with just a green panel filter and magnex centre and rear for mods). So decided to have a bit of a race up the local dual carrageway with him afterwards and my classic stayed right on his tail !
When i first drove his sti, i thought it was going to feel much quicker than mine so im pretty pleased with my classic! I suppose it helps that it weighs about 250kg less than the blob-eye sti! Go for an sti classic!

cheers guys, your red impreza looks rather tasty (better than a bugeye).
i do love the classic shape, however i was going for the newer shape cos i thought more reliable less to go wrong, having said that one friend has a classic which he drives like it's stolen and it's never missed a beat?!

I went from wrx Bug WRX to a Blob STI and the latter is far better,
PPP fitted so even better now .
As for running costs not a lot in it to be honest.
Even with ppp mpg isn't that much lower.
Insurance a bit more and servicing similar.
I would go for an STI over the WRX otherwise you will always wished you had spent that bit extra for the STI.
I only lasted 9 months in a WRX before i had to upgrade.
Nik.

Unless i am wrong mate they are both the same engines(Classic and WRX right down to power),so saying you will go for the newer car because it is more reliable and less to go wrong isn't true................all the same fun,and all the same potential problems.

If you like both cars, just find and buy the absolute best of either that you can afford, and hopefully you will not go far wrong

I have just sold my Classic and will hopefully be getting a Blobeye STI PPP with a few other mods in a couple of weeks, and if that gives me as much fun as my Classic i will be a very happy boy

get an average 20 mpg in mine and i do short work runs then give it a blast (so not really the most economical driving!) not too bad in my book

trackdays will see low teens/single figures but unless you drive around with your foot flat to the floor it is possible to get a reasonable return.

go sti

get a WRX and you will be spending money on it to get it to STi spec

Ok, not everyone does this but I know I did...

In some respects however, I feel like I have the best of both worlds ie I have the performance of the STi but have the 5spd box (which I prefer) and the more forgiving struts oh and the low key looks.

However, if I had to do it all again I would get the STi!

Didn't some magazine say the best Impreza for everyday use was the WRX PPP?

I personally prefer the look of the WRX. I don't think it has quite the same image as the STI, (you see fewer chavy thiefs driving them), it's more subtle (not too keen on the gold wheels/huge spoiler) and it's still a damn good car!

People who always say get the STI or you will mod the WRX and regret it make me laugh. Chances are they got the STI and STILL modified that! When will these people be happy?

Had both and would never go back to WRX. My STI was PPP'd so bit quicker than ord STI but its not just the speed of it its the whole package. An STI feels like a totally diff car to WRX. It sounds different and just has that something WRX does not. As for costs I found STI was slightly worse on MPG and insurance. Not a lot though. Servicing was same I thought. Get an STI mate!!

Default WRX IS WHERE IT BEGAN

I jus got a proper low milage import WRX looks n drives like new. i paid 4.5k
its a riot on wheels just like they all are when you can see the pistons
down the exhaust!!!

my main car is a chipped ZAFIRA GSI which is about 250bhp an can keep wi em in a straight line coz it only drivin the front wheels, so long as we dont have any corners and the road is anything but
kinder dry, oh and ya dont get seasick.
to be honest the ZAF has to go i dont like drivin it now.

but at least ya can kill seven people if ya drive poo.

nah im gonna love dis classic even tho I can buy new or newer

its where it all began.. but I will get a runner like a toyota starlet turbo

its a 1.3L turbo wi a girlie button on the dash (just jossin wi ya)dunno yet

neil....

cheers for all your responses guys, i know what you mean about regetting gettin the lesser car because a friend bought a wrx ppp and said its a wicked car just "not an sti"!!,his wrx ppp is a fast car (s*it brakes) and went in an sti ppp and it was just unbeleivable , but if there was a massive diff in cost i could have lived with the wrx, but the general jist is there is hardly any diff in cost so looks like sti (black or silver).

glad I amused you

I would have definitely modded the STi if I had bought one but at least I would now have something more capable than I have now for the same money, the truth is that if buy an WRX, you will always think (WHY DIDN'T I SHELL OUT A COUPLE OF GRAND MORE FOR THE STi?)

When will I be happy? Never. Am I happier than I was with a standard WRX? Yes

Some people prefer to 'keep things as they are' or 'not upset the apple cart' I am not, never have been, never will be

Of course there are those out there that are happy with the circa 220bhp

i had a test drive in a blob eye wrx PPP befor i bought my blob eye wrx sti,i thought the wrx was quick, but the sti was a different cattle of fish,in my opinion the 6speed box makes all the difference, its a bit more expensive to buy at the start, but well worth it!

Went from a bugeye UK300 to a MY05 STI - no comparison the STI is a better car by miles - better handling, brakes, faster and looks loads better.

Remember the STI has stronger internals and box - the STI Box can take 400bhp+ where as the WRX cannot.

I have a 03 WRX with PPP fitted and i love and also hate it at the same time. Its a lot less of a show off which is good and bad. When i have the daughter in i just want to get home safely etc, but when i am alone and fancy a play i wish it would grow a large rear spoiler and shout look at me.

Saying that i recently went out with another 14 Scoobies, and i never found it lacking power compared to the STIs.

Yep, I like the more subtle looks too (although I had to mod it !).

Anyway, where's the pics of the 15 Scoobies on their day trip ?

whats the insurance group and MPG of a blobeye WRX and STI?

I'm considering buying another scooby but cant make my mind up if I should get a Blobeye WRX or pay that extra for the STI.
I'm will be using it as my daliy car doing 60 miles weekdays and the extra for weekends.

Did see from another thread a price of a new MY07 WRX (EU Import) for £15k

When I bought my 2003 WRX, MPG was the biggest concern as I do 500 miles a week!!

The brochure said WRX - motorway driving 31 mpg, STI 21mpg, I didn't think I would get even that as the brochures usually talk things up, but I thought 1/3 of a difference - I'll take the WRX and I am getting 30-31mpg, with the odd wee blast, so not all wrong!

You may have swung me towards the WRX with that.

As a daily car would there be much difference in forms of comfort between the WRX and STI?

B4 anybody starts i dont want a bmw for comfort
