Hi all, just wanted to say hi to everyone!

I love my MR2 turbo - its great!..........however after a few "entertaining" moments in the winter weather i decided to get something four wheel drive.

I could never really see what all the fuss was about regarding Subarus, apart from the nice burble they made as they drove by (admittedly i had never driven one-sorry!) ..... However last Saturday i took one out for a test drive.......... WOW! It was fantastic!, really engaging drive and the grip, granted i'm used to feeling the rear drift a little in the TWO but i thought the Subaru was welded to the road!!! A really superb experience!

As soon as i got back i immediately put a deposit down on the car.

However, i am embarrased to say i know nothing about them ( ). After checking on the web i have gained a little knowledge, along with calling "Scooby Clinic" (only 30 mins down the road) and i believe i have made a good decision.

The car is a P reg Subaru Impreza WRX Sti version 3???? (not sure what the STi V3 is all about ) 5-door, its done just over 60,000 miles and is really immaculate throughout, i'm due to collect it on Saturday.

Any info from anybody would be gratefully recieved! I.e. is the model i have chosen ok?, roughly what power should the car be making - its totally stock inc exhaust etc, but tbh it feels at least as quick as the MR2 (which was around 240hp)

Best place for insurance? Best place for servicing-(Scooby Clinic??? - i got a good vibe from them, when i spoke to them earlier today!). I know the car is older (10+ yrs) will this be a problem? Any info would be of major use-i can't believe i have ignored this marque for so long!

The car will be used as a daily commuter and so i want to try and keep it stock ish! however i need to hear that rumble - best exhaust???

Welcome to SNet, and the drug that is an 'Impreza'.

Im sure their will be some people around this thread soon who can help you out with advice, but from what i have heard about Scoobyclinic it seems like their service is actually better than most main dealers.. so i think your pretty sorted with their advice.

Scoobs aren't totally magic. Some suggest no magic, merely grip.
If there is snow or ice, sometimes only rain and you are "on it", they and you are still mortal.

Sorry, didn't want to give the wrong impression - owning MR2 turbo's for 4 years makes you a careful driver (if you have a brain!)

It was just an experience so different from what i was used to!!

Really look forward to driving it tho!

Oh no its not an estate, just a 5 door saloon - however the estates do look quite good also IMO

Did you purchase it from Jap Performance UK in Bradford?, as i know they had a white STi V3 Wagon which matches your description.

Must admit the sti wagons look stunning, specially with the twin rear spoilers

No sorry mate - not mine. Mine is a grey/silver colour with gold 16inch wheels. Its a 4-door non estate/wagon from a company in manchester!

Really struggling for the insurance tho' full no claims, 29yrs old, Mr2 turbo cost £500, best price from Adrian Flux £1400!!

wtf....... any suggestions anyone!

Welcome - TO answer some of your questions...

STi (subaru technica international) take standard WRX's and ugrade them - think along the lines of Nismo with Nissan, or AMG with Mercedes, RS with Ford etc.

Your STi is a V3 (version 3), brand new it would have developed 280BHP as standard give or take, and 343nm of torque.

Worth bearing in mind that you really only ever want to be putting SUL in these, Shell V-Power or equivalent. STi's are reputed not to like standard unleaded at all, and in fact will actually fail over an extended period.

Scooby Clinic have a very good reputation round here, so you won;t go far wrong with them.

As for insurance, have a look in the insurance section - lots of good advice in there.

Got my insurance through direct line, im 26 with 7 years ncd and its around 600 fully comp. It is just a wrx but wouldnt have thought the sti meant so much of an increase...

There are three companies to try regarding insurance, A-Plan (in Thatchum), Greenlight and keith micheals. All should be able to beat most main stream companies + plus when it comes to modding "And you will mod the car"!!! they don't mind, Some main stream companies won't allow mods full stop or those that do will add up to £150 for just a back box.
