Passengers side window mechanism is feeling a little tired now too.

talking to ian at tintwizard.co.uk, its becasue the frameless doors need a pad to support the window, inside the door, as their is no frame to do this, and over time, the pads build up ****e and wear, and can cause the lines.
Especially noticable when you tint the windows as you then look AT the glass rather than through it.

Best idea is to dismantle the mechanism and clean or repair the pads/guides as soon as you start to see a problem.
Silicone polish on the outside of the windows may also help... Well, it doesn't seem to do any harm...

This isn't a problem for just classics I'm afraid
As mentioned about pillarless doors, it makes sense that newage would do it also.
Nice to hear that some have been replaced under warranty though. I'll probaby look into that before mine is up in July
Poor design really if mine are scratched after 30 months and 19k miles

I had a "99 classic a couple of years ago and it also ended up with the scratch marks on the glass , i tried a glass polishing kit from Machine Mart and cleaned the felt pads, which helped a bit.

Jens P1 has done this, They all do it
Shouldnt be too much of a problem. if it's just scratched glass that you are bothered about, knock them over it and get the compound and replace the pads. should be ok for a few years

MY02 with tinted windows does it - both driver and passenger windows. Doesn't appear to be scratches as such (so far...) but certainly shows up when washing the car
