I had this happen a couple of weeks ago. They just asked if the car was mine and to confirm my address (I suspect they check your reg with base first and find out where the car's registered to). He just explained that there had been a couple of Imprezas stolen in the last few weeks.
Let me go, no problems and it only took 1 minute. I didn't mind as long as it doesn't happen too often.

They were probably hoping it was stolen so that they could have a race and call it a job, why else would they pull you over? They know full well that if it was stolen then you wouldn't stop and they wouldn't be able to catch you. Bunch of time wasters.

I think it's a little satisfying knowing they will stop cars, not just Scoobs hopefully, at high risk to see if the driver is actually supposed to be in the car.
Safety for the cost of only a minute.
Think to the case if it wasn't actually you in the car.

Can't see too much of a problem with this. I'd be happy (and very suprised) to find that my car had been stolen & recovered by a random check. After all, most of us probably wouldn't know that the car had been pinched for a while, so it may not be reported as being stolen & the police know this so they do spot-checks on highly-pinched cars in general. Whirly blue lights > 'hello sir, name & address' (bleep bleep bleep) 'thank you sir, have a nice evening' is no probs. Could even be seen as 'good customer relations' to me!

I'm with nom. I've been pulled in the cossie a couple of times and asked to confirm my address and postcode. then they let me go. No bother, nothing. Its nice to know that the bill are thinking about car theft and its a relativly simple way of doing checks. Plus a tea-leaf aint gonna stop so they might get a good 5 mins of airtime on police camera action if they are in a chase with a cossie. Either way they benefit and my cars a little safer.

Manchester aint a safe area at the moment so be grateful they pulled you!
Now i hope you noticed them following you, just imagine if it was another unmarked car.... scary aint it but not as scary as someone trying to boot down your front door
