Default MY00 Burble

Hi guys,

I'm still on the look out for my first impreza (MY00 UK Turbo). Just wondering if you get much of the well known burble from a standard car? Obviously I know it will be more prominent with an after market exhaust, but was just wondering what the standard one was like?

Thanks

Damn, Oh well. Any suggestions as to which exhaust to get?

I'd like noticable burble but without annoying cabin droan... if there is one?

The standard is fine ..... replace the backbox if you find it too quiet.

If you base the purchase of a car on whether it has a burble or not you are not taking it seriously!

Get a decat centre and a aftermarket backbox, it's all you need to release a mild burble. Had a decat sentre and ninja bb on my RA, little louder in the cabin without the soud deadning, but am sure it'd be ok on other imprezas.

Probably best for me then. I like the sound but don't want too much noise, especially on the motorway (most of my commute)

Changed the standard exhaust with a Magnex Oval system when I last had my MY00 Turbo, and it was noisy. But had the burble. That was with a decat centre. Whatever you do, don't change the air filter for an aftermarket one, as this will cause issues with the MAF sensor.

Wise choice. I started off with the standard twin pea shooter exhaust. But then when I went to use a Magnex it was fun at first. But later I found it was starting to make me deaf with increased decibels.

The magnex is not overly loud. The standard backbox is very, very quiet.
I have a H&S back box which is quite loud, but really brings out the flat four rumble, especially with a de-cat!

Just change the backbox. Something like the original design from H&S will suit your requirements nicely.

If you change the centre section don't forget to get a resonated one or you may find the drone a bit too much.

i have scoobysport decat downpipe, magnex decat straight through de cat centre and scoobysport backbox and it sounds sweet on my 99 classic. not too loud except when u put the foot down and at around 3500=4000rpm roars!!! lovely burble on tickover and nice and subtle around town on normal driving. imo is perfect.

Best thing to do is keep an eye on the regional sections and go along to a meet. Most people will only be too pleased to fire up their Scoobs and let you check the exhaust note. I ran an original Scoobysport (Hayward & Scott) system on my MY00 - it sounded lovely without being too bad on motorways. The really loud stuff are normally the Japanese boxes - HKS, Blitz etc. No doubt there will be one to suit your taste. I've never known a car to have more exhaust systems!

I've got a full decat (scoobysport/janspeed) and do a lot of motorway miles. Car sounds fantastic from outside but I don't find it intrusive in the cabin, despite sh!!te stereo.

If you are trying to keep the costs down and don't mind second hand you could pick up a nice stainless steel prodrive/wr sport back box off Ebay for about a ton. The prodrive is round and the wr is oval - both sound good at idle and are relatively quiet at motorway speeds.

Full decat with a HKS Silent HiPower back box. It rumbles without being intrusive, and wakes up after 4500 rpm.

Can thoroughly recommend the Ninja Backbox. You should be able to pick one up hear second-hand if patient.

Impreza Turbo 1993-2000 Classic:Impreza Turbo 1993-2000 Classic: Scoobyworld Afterburner Vortex [AFTERBURNERBB] - £279.99£249.99

With just the backbox, it released more noise/burble/rumble, not offensive and you could hear yourself easily, but you knew you were driving a subaru. When fully decatted, well, it was awesome, but loud!

TSL group N gives a nice noise.

IMHO although the Decibel level increases as you replace the CAT pipes with DECAT's the drone you get at low rpm reduces.
When you remove the CATS you get more high frequency noise which is more tolerable in the cabin.

The Magnex BB on it's own drones more then the similar Scoobysport, H&S or TSL Group'N'

The least intrusive being the Prodrive PPP box

I've had them all and wouldn't get rid of the TSL group'N' for love nor money

Ignore the AFR gauge in the movie, just listen to the soundtrack.
This is full decat & TSL Group'N' Rear Box

I've got MY00 with a magnex system centre decat and rear box 6*4inch oval. It isn't too loud but really brings out the burble very nicely.
