Got one myself. Parts are damn expensive (discs, pads alround £1300 I believe). Shop around, don't use Subaru OE parts (except for oil filter maybe). I bought EBC discs and Ferodo DS2500 pads and no worse or better than OE stuff. Servicing also expensive. If you can get a local garage with good knowledge of the car and reputation, use them. This will halve your servicing costs straight away.
Service intervals are every 10k although I change my oil every 5k. This will cost about £120 at Subaru, about half that at a local garage.
Petrol, I average 230 miles to about £42 of Optimax. It's very easy to reduce this !!!
That said, I love mine to bits. I could save aload of money and buy a little deisel, but only got one life, so making the most of it !!!!

Confuscious say, "man who ask how much, cannot afford!" LOL
Or however you spell it! Lolz0rs.
Subarus as standard are ok to run and very reliable.
Modified ones are expensive as you have to cover your investment using the best stuff available to keep it all working well.
Best oils, pads, etc, etc.
But economical they are not!

Cheap to buy considering the performance potential, but NOT, I REPEAT, NOT, cheap to run. Scrimp on the maintenence and consumables and it will cost you dearly!

Fuel alone is about 240 (standard) for £42 V-Power. After Stage 1 the fuelling was about the same.
Although on a spirited drive i used 1/4 tank of fuel in 10 miles!
Haven't gone through enough tanks yet to find out what Stage 2 drinks, but it's not worth thinking about.
See if you can afford the insurance and fuel first, then get onto servicing and running costs.

Fuel economy was the final straw for me. Before you buy try this. Work out how much more you would have spent this year running a car that returns 20mpg compared to the car you have now. Do the same with your insurance and, if appropriate, road tax. Now go to your bank and remove all that money in cash. Now look at your bank balance. If you don't have enough to cover the remaining running costs plus other unforseen life expenses then don't even think about buying it. There is a big difference between saying you don't give a toss about fuel economy and actually handing over a fifty pound note for a tank of petrol and a packet of chewing gum every 200ish miles.
People who say you only live once and should buy the Scoob either have plenty of money or no money at all. Either way, it is a cliche that is used far too liberally.

60 quid for front discs and pads from Ebay (GGR), thats what I paid anyway.
I regularly get over 300 per tank on my classic.

But after having a scoob for 5 months, i would find it to hard to drive a 'sensible' car again, there just so much fun
I dont do many miles really, and i spend loads on V-power, i feel sorry for people who get around as it must be hell for them
But, i dont want to get to 80 and think, god i wish i'd have had a nicer car when i was younger

Tyres, depends on make, but the front outers wear quick. I bought the car with 9k and they were already below. Guess the previous owner didn't rotate them.
Discs were just skimmed at 20k also.
15k Interim service (oil basically) was £120
20k Service (fluids, oil, etc) was £250-ish.
So better priced than Audi it seems.
I don't think the STi is expensive to run, but then mine is still in warranty. The only gripe with most seems to be fuel and running. But we all know how much fuel costs, you can find the rough MPG and you know your annual mileage.
So it's not hard to work out if you can afford to run it.
Hope that lot helps.

As for petrol i will be doing 15-20k a year so it will cost a lot but TBH the Golf is only getting 25 ish, maybe its because you have to thrash the damm thing to get it to go quickly
