Default Be gentle,

Hi i'm TJ

Live in suffolk east anglia and joined the site to get some more info and ideas on what scooby i might buy. I currently drive a modified Astra VXR with a full stainless milltek exhaust system and KW coilovers. (awaits the astra bashers)

Anyway, have had the car since jan this yr but recently got 2 rottweilers and trying to get them in to a 3door astra isnt easy when they need transporting to vets or relatives, and also couple kids that need ferrying sometimes so i have decided (well nearly) to sell the vxr and buy a "sensible" 4door saloon and impreza came to mind.

I would just like some info from the people that know, about running costs service costs etc etc. THe vxr isnt a cheap motor to run so wanted to see how much if any much more the impreza would be. I'm lookin at a WRX STI type uk i think

Cheers sorry about the long post

TJ

Hello TJ - Welcome to Scoobynet. Im in a fairly good position to answer this question having literally just sold my Stage 1 Astra GSI Turbo running at 240bhp. I px'ed the car on Sunday for a JDM WRX STi Impreza.

I used to get roughly around 300-320 miles to tank of fuel in the Astra and have already found that going to be closer to 250 miles in the Scooby than anything else. Servicing isn't much more expensive on the Scooby's than it is on the VX's but I have a feeling im going to need tyres on a more regular basis on the Scooby.

you got any pics of your new scoob??

i get 240-260 in the vxr so fuel consumption not an issue really. is basically just the cost of services etc as insurance is practically the same. am i right in saying subaru'sneed service every 5k

Welcome fella, I hope you have never broken the speed limit in that VXR of yours as the majority of scoobynet members only drive to and below the speed limit and never advocate speeding. If you've ever had a moment of madness toying with a RS4 please declare immediately and be prepared for a grilling. This also includes posting any threads with questions of which certain members believe to be of a simple nature for example what makes a WRX a WRX etc, definitely a no no and disagreeing with members with a post count of eight thounsand plus. Poor spelling and grammer are not taken lightly on this forum and warrant abuse from other members which don't even own a Subaru, but seem to be of the impression that they are morally and intellectually superior to all.

Otherwise your pretty save

I've been told by Power Engineering that Scooby's should be serviced every 10,000 miles and things like oil filter and oil every 5k. Got my car booked in with Power Engineering this week for a 40K service and inspection of the brakes. Quoted price is £160.

Picture below isn't the best in the world - dark morning and nights mean I havn't got any decent pics at all yet - but im sure you get the idea.

cheers for the info norma snockers.

gsi mav, thanks for clearing that up i was kinda close hey. £160 is about same for a service at vauxhall, although every 10k might is a bit more painful however my mileage isnt far off 10k/yr anyway. Things are looking better and better.

I think that youll struggle. A friend of mine has one Rottweiler and there certainly isnt room in the boot for another one... Perhaps a Legacy or a Forester provide the solution?

its not a change for the dogs so to say more person realated i could live with the vxr with the dogs as never more than 1 in the car at a time on the rare occasion a dogs gotta get in, as walks are from the house never taken somewhere in car then walked.

Depends on your budget, to the model you can afford, but you're firmly in Wagon Territory.
